Journal spoonyfork's Journal: Display simple folder view in Explorer's Folders list 6

Since upgrading to Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 for some projects at work I have become annoyed at the interface differences as compared to Windows 2000. Among the most annoying (and oddly enough hardest to resolve) was the missing lines between folders in the left-hand pane Folders view of Windows Explorer. To get them to show up again go to Windows Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab -> uncheck "Display simple folder view in Explorer's Folders list". Ahhhh.

Display simple folder view in Explorer's Folders list

  • I just disable the left hand thingy all together. I just want to see my files. That's really all I need.
    • Nah, I like the tree view. In fact, I think Windows Explorer is the best piece of native Windows software. I wish I had Windows Explorer on my mac and linux boxes. Konquerer comes close but not close enough.
      • I'm sorry: we there is a misunderstanding. I thought you meant the annoying left-hand side when you simply browser folders. Not while invoking explorer by WinKey-E. Double-clicking on "My Computer" for example doesn't give me the treeview (default behaviour), but running WinKey-E gives me "explorer.exe" that has the treeview.

What I disable are the stupid summaries on the left-hand side.
Yes, explorer is good... not great, but good. I actually prefer Finder on OS X, but that must be a matter of taste.

        • No prob. Actually I'm like you when in a non-Windows Explorer window I hate the summaries too. However I rarely go into a folder without going through Windows Explorer. As for the finder in OSX, I do like it much more than the <=OS9 finder. (God those were dark days.)

  • Didn't realize how much I missed those lines. Sweet, thanks!
