All I can say is... KoriaDesevis, I have a feeling you are about to get an enormous amount of fans by the end of the day.

Hope everyone had fun. I should make a 'post-mortem' JE about the contest. It has grown much more than I thought. The first contest was less than 30 people. The way we did this one was fine for that size... but now its far too big. I'll have to come up with a better way next time... Oh well, ya live and learn, right? :-D

Woo-hoo! (1)

turg (19864) | more than 9 years ago | (#12160970)

I think I did pretty well. I got a bunch right that nobody else did that I've seen. Time to start counting...

I got 68 right! (1)

Holy Cow! (1)

Jeremiah Cornelius (137) | more than 9 years ago | (#12160985)

Well - I'da never on some of these!

FK only posted my first, "funny" pic. My wife swaers its pretty dead on.

That's right, I said "wife" - sorry Koria! :-)

What a learning experience! (1)

BandwidthHog (257320) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161039)

I'm sitting here with the list in one window and the photos in another, having all my misconceptions shattered. Some of you are older than I thought, some younger than I thought, some femaler than I thought, etc.

Ooh, ooh, I finally get to find out who thought they were Michael Cai---- you punk.

So you've learned I'm a sketchy looking racially ambiguous terribly skinny d00d. I wouldn't call it an experience :P

Re:What a learning experience! (1)

eno2001 (527078) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162732)

Well, I learned (from bethanie's guess) that a "liberal whackjob" like me is supposed to look like a "sketchy looking racially ambiguous terribly skinny d00d". That's something, innit? ;P

Re:What a learning experience! (1)

Ethelred Unraed (32954) | more than 9 years ago | (#12163795)

Holy Crap! (1)

dexterpexter (733748) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162149)

Oh. My. Goodness.

Has anyone ever told you that you bare a striking resemblance to the wrestler, Rob Van Dam [google.com] ? Perhaps less so in the Google search images, but turn on the television the next time WWE Smackdown is on (Yeah, yeah. I watch wrestling!) and prepare to be awed. LOL

O_o Wow.

Re:Holy Crap! (1)

BandwidthHog (257320) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162318)

Has anyone ever told you...

Nope, you're the first. Never heard of the dude. Don't have a TV, so I'll just have to take your word for it. Based on the Google Images link, I've got just a few more workouts to go before the resemblance is complete. But thanks for the encouragement!

Some shockers!!! (1)

BlackHat (67036) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161101)

Which made it great fun. Thx FK that was a gas.

Yours isn't too unexpected...

Re:Some shockers!!! (1)

turg (19864) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161608)

I don't know. Doesn't look like a guy that makes Lego comics to me.

Re:Some shockers!!! (1)

NeeNee3 (601111) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161651)

I will have you know that I studied, yes studied your information. I looked at the web page that you reference and then I searched all of those photos for someone that might have had some legos hidden in their picture. But could I find any?? Of course not! That would have been too easy. So, thanks for nothing!! ;-)

Re:Some shockers!!! (1)

BlackHat (67036) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162115)

All the Bryce'ing with the backgrounds of the Comics etc was obvious, but not too obvious. IMUHO [/;-)

Oh (1)

Shit.

dexterpexter im'ed me earlier and I kept referring to her like she was a d00d.

Ooops.

You're way less ugly than I thought you'd be. In fact, the wife insists you're the only human male I talk to on /. Then I read her your posts

Re:Oh (1)

the_mad_poster (640772) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161579)

Oh noes sir, you must be mistaken. My posts are awesome!

You're just mad because I stopped yelling so much and you don't appreciate the fine art of traditional trolling. I got typecast, Luke... er, Mark. :(

Yeah (1)

dexterpexter (733748) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162194)

Yes, Josh, thanks for your time and effort (and taking some AC abuse) on this. I has been a lot of fun.

What were your clues? (1)

turg (19864) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161216)

Okay everyone, what were the clues in your photos?

I'm #103 [simpli.biz] . Photo #2 has the CN Tower in the background, establishing the location as Toronto. Photo #3 has my son. I think I'm the only Torontonian who's a father in the contest. Photo #4 has the 12-foot wide row house that was the subject of much conversation in November.

Re:What were your clues? (1)

Some Woman (250267) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161292)

Clues: In my first picture, I'm wearing my brand new winter coat, just to remind you all that I live in MN where it can get fucking cold. The third picture shows me at graduation, which I talked about excessively in my journal because it was harder won than I thought it would be.

Re:What were your clues? (1)

turg (19864) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161335)

Especially when you didn't even know that you were at Stanford.

Re:What were your clues? (1)

Some Woman (250267) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161395)

That might explain how I failed. I was going to the wrong classes all along. :^)

Re:What were your clues? (1)

BandwidthHog (257320) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161351)

I'm #45 [marotti.com] .

Photo #1 shows me piss drunk.

Photo #2 shows me, umm, trying to look +1, Insightful?

Photo #3 is the most clue-ridden, as it shows me A) driving a 240sx, and B) pre weight loss.

Photo #4 is me in the midst of working way too much overtime while living on the road.

Re:What were your clues? (1)

NeeNee3 (601111) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161432)

You mean you didn't get ALL of the clues in my photo??? Well, if you didn't see 'em, I'm sure not going to point them out to you now!! Sheez.... ;-)

Re:What were your clues? (1)

turg (19864) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161489)

Whoah there. I guessed yours correctly, didn't I?

I just thought it would be fun to discuss all the thought and preparation that went into our photos.

So go ahead NeeNee3.

Well?

Re:What were your clues? (1)

NeeNee3 (601111) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161561)

Ok, first of all, in my photo I am wearing my favorite purple shirt. Well, back in February I wrote a JE about me wearing a shirt inside out and backwards for about 3 hours before I noticed. It was that shirt!!! See?? :-)

Also, in that photo, I'm lying on my bed. Back in November, I wrote a JE about wanting to take a nap...get the connection???

Isn't it all starting to make sense now? The clues were there, you just had to look for them!!

Re:What were your clues? (1)

ryanr (30917) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162696)

Esperanto. That's a clue, isn't it? Esperanto -- hope. Hope defeats despair. Despair -- the Despair Squid. It's a blatant clue, isn't it? Blatant! If you didn't get that you must have been playing like puddings!

Re:What were your clues? (1)

red5 (51324) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161593)

Photo two had me walking toward a GTO. Photo three had me driving said GTO. I figured one with my toolbelt would be fodder for YMCA references.

Re:What were your clues? (1)

BandwidthHog (257320) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161615)

I considered a picture with my hardhat and tool belt, and decided against it for that very reason.

Re:What were your clues? (1)

mekkab (133181) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161870)

My major clue off was that I used the same picture as last time. Which really takes the edge off.

I actually gave out three "semi" hints in the "contestant #..." posts.

Re:What were your clues? (1)

Ethelred Unraed (32954) | more than 9 years ago | (#12163805)

HOLY SHIT THAT PICTURE WAS U?!?! I D1DNT KNO D00D

I thought your hint was the Escape key, which means you're a fan of Journey, because their best album was "Escape". Yeah. So your troll account is j00rnee.

OK, so I have the deductive powers of a dead iguana.

Cheers,

Ethelred

Re:What were your clues? (1)

bethanie (675210) | more than 9 years ago | (#12161977)

You really have to ask?

Oh, I see. Allll righty then.

See, I went and got all tarted up as trashy as I could, and stopped short of actual pornography. I was doing my best to make fun of my /. "persona" as much as possible. I sure hope people didn't take me seriously. The pigtails were a bit of an homage, and if you don't get it, well, then, it's not worth mentioning.

The foot is 1) me naked and 2) a play on "It's Funny. Laugh," which Ethelred kinda got.

Oh, I counted, and it looks like I got 50 right. I'm fucking impressed! I didn't think I knew that many people (truth is, quite a few were lucky guesses or based on good hints from people).

....Bethanie....

Re:What were your clues? (1)

btlzu2 (99039) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162617)

Oh, I counted, and it looks like I got 50 right.
That's IT??? You could only pick out yourself.

I wouldn't be so fucking impressed.

Is there a word (1)

bethanie (675210) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162764)

for someone being intentionally obtuse?

Oh yeah: btlzu2!

I said "50," not #50.

Don't make me give you a time out!!

....Bethanie....

Re:Is there a word (1)

btlzu2 (99039) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162774)

Wah, you're hurting my feelings!!!! :)

Re:What were your clues? (1)

RailGunner (554645) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162213)

You already nailed mine - my giveaways were the Stryper shirt, and me playing the Jackson Rhoads with my former band (cropped out of the photo)

It's amazing how many of my wife's friends are shocked when they first meet me, because with the long blonde hair (pic is a year old, and I haven't cut it save for a trim now and then) and during the winter I wear a black leather jacket... not at all the type you'd expect a cutie like my better half to end up with.

Re:What were your clues? (1)

enforcer999 (733591) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162223)

I thought that my clues were pretty straight forward but...

Anyway, the law books in the background and the archaeological photo as me as the dirtiest (real dirt) archaeologist. Paleoethnobotany is a dirty job as you might or might not know. Hmm...I have a website where that picture came from. I will track it down.

Here is the picture. (1)

enforcer999 (733591) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162364)

It is on this website. You can pick me out because I am just completely covered in dirt. It is the nature of floating. This is an old photo. Scroll down to the bottom of the page..... (see Wikipedia-paleoethnobotany) ;-) http://www.ou.edu/anthropology/faculty/gilman.html [ou.edu]

Re:What were your clues? (1)

elmegil (12001) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162225)

1) it's one of my LJ icons. 2) The boppie (sorta) after discussions with Bethanie over breastfeeding. 3) my munchkin in my lap, but that's not much of a clue.

Yeah, all pretty lame. :-)

Re:What were your clues? (1)

gmhowell (26755) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162256)

My clue is that I never took the pictures off of my website. And everyone has seen them a million times. Except for TMP.

Same here (1)

Ethelred Unraed (32954) | more than 9 years ago | (#12163836)

Pretty much the same here [marotti.com] . I've posted pics before of myself, even in the same room (which is my workroom, whodathunkit) and with the same hat (a Cooperstown series Washington Senators^WNationals cap, my birthday present last year).

The addition of the Confessor was sort of an added bonus for my fawning public. Actually I couldn't find the picture I wanted to post [grantham.de] until it was too late. Oh, well.

Though the Confessor thinks this is a better photo [grantham.de] . Note the royal purple of his high chair.

Cheers,

Ethelred

Re:What were your clues? (1)

subgeek (263292) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162276)

i'm #70 [simpli.biz] . i gave lots of clues. in case you can't figure out that i'm sitting next to my PS2 and xbox, i'm holding an xbox controller. in my other hand i've got two rattan sticks, which are trademark weapons in arnis, a martial art i study. another clue is the actual boxed copy of 3ds max 7 on top of the PS2. if you look closely, you might see my tungsten wedding ring, but it's somewhat obscured. the stunts t-shirt is just a shirt that i think is awesome. i think i may have also been wearing it when i met up with the beatleman and ethelred. in case you already knew what i looked like, i've included my face.

Re:What were your clues? (1)

cyranoVR (518628) | more than 9 years ago | (#12163009)

Just wanna say: yours was my favorite picture. It reminded me of those old timey portraits [si.edu] where the subject would pose with their rifle or whatever...

The 21st Century Frontiersman armed with his XBox controller, 3D Software and whatzit sticks, heh

Re:What were your clues? (1)

jawtheshark (198669) | more than 9 years ago | (#12163684)

I don't know how it's called, but there are portraits that show the person with items of their trade. Such a thing has a name in art, but I have no idea what it is.

In modern times, a computer scientist should pose with a computer-mouse ;-) I want to an exposition of Tamara De lempicka in Vienna and there was such a painting: a chemist with a test-tube in his hand. Anyways, just wanted to add that. :-D

Re:What were your clues? (1)

buffer-overflowed (588867) | more than 9 years ago | (#12163148)

Clues? Clues!? I used an old(well, not *that* old, but 2 years old) picture of me at the range to try to trick people into thinking I was LordBodak.

And it worked. Mostly. The one thing that may have given it away was the theater cast shirt and my age.

So... I'm happy.

Re:What were your clues? (1)

cyranoVR (518628) | more than 9 years ago | (#12163210)

Photo #1 [marotti.com] - The rabble sayeth NAY!!!1

I mentioned going to Italy in my journal. Perhaps I will actually write about the trip now that doing so won't "ruin" the contest. Jawtheshark got this one right away, btw. Damn Euros :)

Photo #2 [marotti.com] taken in the Galleria near Milan's Duomo Square, en route to the Giardino fencing club. No clue - I posted it as a shameless attempt to get me into someone's "TOP 5 HOTTEST!!!1" list. There, I said it! Don't judge me.

Yeah, yeah MC Hamster, you can f*** off :P

(On second thought, I guess this picture could be a clue for people who have seen my face [slashdot.org] before [slashdot.org] )

I sent in photo #3 [marotti.com] late (thanks, Josh) so I don't know if everyone got to see it. Again, no clue...I just thought it was a funny picture worth sharing.

The story behind that picture is: it was former co-worker's actual "desk." For some reason they never gave him his own workstation, so he just pushed some boxes together in the server room (where he worked...ugh) and...tada! Instant office!

The day he resigned, I had him take that picture of me. I joked that we should put the picture up on Monster with his job listing: "All this can be yours!!!" Anyway, I think it's a funny picture :)

Re:What were your clues? (1)

Alioth (221270) | more than 9 years ago | (#12163794)

I sometimes talk about flying in my JE. Although the lead in photo was just me and a tree, the other photos all had aircraft in 'em (well, the 4th has a Hawker Siddeley Trident 3 simulator, and a picture of me aged 12, but...)

But then again, that's why I put that particular photo in there!

I did. But only because everyone kept guessing you as me and me as you. :) Yay!

All I can say is... KoriaDesevis, I have a feeling you are about to get an enormous amount of fans by the end of the day.

As if I'd be that shallow.
(Well, okay, I just friend her)

Yeah, but you have me friended, too. Does that mean you think I'm sexy [marotti.com] , too? ;)

Thank you FK, it was a lot of fun for us, and I'm sure a lot of work for you. As they say, you are a gentleman and a scholar. :-)

Yes indeed. Thank you Fortknox! It's always good to see those we talk with. It's been much work for you and I certainly appreciate your efforts.

Hear, hear! Thank you very much.

I am glad that my friends look so much better than my freaks!

And, to the person with the velcro watchband fetish: I'm sorry if I offended you by wishing you are female.

No clues from me really (1)

I kind of figured that the yoda picture might of been circulated a little bit through Sols journal, as well as the twinkie weiner sandwich journal and photos. I really haven't exactly tried to hide myself.

not too bad (1)

subgeek (263292) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162291)

i got 27 correct, or 28 if you factor that i purposely guessed myself incorrectly. that's either 24.77% or 25.69% depending on whether you give me my incorrect self guess. that's actually better than i expected. a few of my wild ass guesses turned out to be correct.

Re:not too bad (1)

subgeek (263292) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162373)

i miscounted. i actually got one more correct than i thought. even better!

I'm male. That link is to my blog on my friend's page. I first used this ID in Asheron's Call, but have since altered it.

Bah! (1)

Damnit, work has been busy and I didn't get a chance to enter my guesses! Not that I had many but that isn't the point.

And now the moment you've all been waiting for... The winner of the $20 Amazon Gift certificate [slashdot.org] is... Michael Sims! ... errr... no, that's the "Prick of the Decade" envelope... Ah here we go.. Bethanie !

Yaayy! Mail me for your prize. If grub@grub.net chokes because of my draconian spam filters try [grieder at gmail]

I said I'd add you to my friends list because of how insanely great your foil hat pics were, but you're already there! I have to say you should win the prize for the funniest pictures in this contest EVAR!

I (#51) Failed it!!! (1)

eno2001 (527078) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162652)

I only got four right. Oh well... better luck next time.

I was highly entertained that bethanie guessed that I was BrainBoy. But you got it on the second try.

And for those looking for clues... well I'll admit there weren't any because I didn't RTFJE when FK put up the original announcement. I just though "OMYGOD!!! I can't miss out this time!" and submitted my three photos. And finally, as if some of you haven't already figured it out, I used to be Trolling4Dollars. But I got sick of all the political talk. It's hard to resist jumping into the fray from time to time, but seriously, politics bore the piss out of me. So I went back to this account to see if I could garner as many freaks/fans by just being a little more reserved and focusing on "stuff that matters", namely computer stuff. Just for the record, the real me is somewhere in between eno2001 and Trolling4Dollars.

Thanks for the fun FK. I missed out on the first two and I didn't want to miss out again. It's great being able to put names to faces.

BandwidthHog (257320) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162791)

Damn it!

I was rather proud of myself for having figured it out a few months ago. Earlier this evening I looked at the results and said to myself "Hmm, so that's what Trolling4Dollars looks like." But now ya gotta blab to the whole world, and I'm no longer special for having guessed your little secret.

Hmm. I think I see a way to get back below the 200 relationships limit.

eno2001 (527078) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162832)

Hey... you still guessed it earlier than I think a lot of people did. That still makes you special. But do you really WANT to be "special" ? ;P What I do find interesting is that some of the folks who were on my old Foes list breifly appeard on my Fans list until I posted a few anti-libertarian or anti-repub (read neocon) comments. And of course... I got foed by Pudge without saying a word to him. Now I still think that is ultimately cool. Even if I do say so myself.

I'm one of those some that didn't figure that out yet.

Whoa.

What you're really trying to say is that you're holding T4D (who is obviously the hawt chick in your second photo) hostage and won't let her post on /. anymore.

We want T4D back! Free T4D!

Cheers,

Ethelred

Fun contest (1)

That's not what you look like.

Oh, FK dude (1)

ryanr (30917) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162813)

Don't, like, you know... put the nicks on the pictures page for our convenience... so we don't, like, have to flip back and forth between two pages, or anything.

Thanks for hosting the thing!

Would've been more interesting (1)

sielwolf (246764) | more than 9 years ago | (#12162955)

if some people wouldn't've said outright who they had met face to face. Was still an interesting experience, and FK earned some dap for the footwork.

I can go back to my friend Andy and tell him he's done an excellent job posing for the /. photo contest, meeting up in Baltimore and DC and convincing everyone else out there that he's me.

I don't know what you mean. I never met you in my life.

OK, I sat next to you for a while, but I got fed up with the way you kept trying to grope me.

Or I guess it was Andy. Andy's a sick bastard.

Cheers,

Ethelred

andr0meda (167375) | more than 9 years ago | (#12163655)

I guessed some of the girls (bethanie you can`t hide from me even if I didn`t know you :)), and then the more obvious ones like eugene, but other than that, some big surprises!! :)

It was big fun, FK, thanks for running the show!! :)

Thanks to FK (1)

Ethelred Unraed (32954) | more than 9 years ago | (#12163892)

...for setting up and hosting the contest, snarky AC comments and whining about standards notwithstanding. Much fun was had by all. And there was much rejoicining. (yaaaaaay)

Cheers,

Ethelred
