Journal spoonyfork's Journal: Windows DLL with system icons, lock workstation shortcut 2

I can never remember which Windows DLL has all the system icons. It is shell32.dll probably found in the system32 folder. I needed it so create a "lock workstation" shortcut with a fitting padlock icon on a Windows 2000 workstation used for work. In case you're wondering, you can create this shortcut on win2k/xp/etc by creating a new shortcut and enter this for the target: rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

  • Windows will tell you when needed. Do the following:
    1. Create a new shortcut (for example to cmd.exe)
    2. Open Properties sheet
    3. In the "Shortcut" tab click "Change Icon"
    4. A new Dialog will open. Remove the filename that is displayed and click "Ok"
    5. The dialog is not closed and the "default" file: %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll is automatically used.

That, or you meant: %SystemRoot%\system32\moricons.dll which is the "More icons" DLL that has been distributed with Windows since the 3.0 days.
