The Internet 28

I'm sure this is just begging for vandalism (unless those douchebags have grown up and finally kissed a girl) . . . but there is an error on my Wikipedia page that needs to be corrected. I'd do it myself, but that's against Wikipedia editing policy.

I am not in Brother Bear. Willie Wheaton, Wil Wheaton, Jr., and Reginald Maudling (Mrs.) are all not me. I've tried to get this taken off imdb, but someone (well-intentioned, I'm sure) keeps putting it back, and Wikipedia editors (also well-intentioned) are putting Brother Bear back up . . . so we're in an infinite improbability loop, and my towel is getting dirty.

Would someone please correct that, and cite this journal entry so it doesn't get corrected back?

You need one of them there big beach towels obviously. Then you could get yourself out of the loop.

Fixed.

Wow! That was really fast.

Thank you :)

You know, you could have just done it yourself on an anonymous internet connection. How the hell are they gonna trace it back to you?

Yeah, I know . . . it's just the principle of the thing.

It seems someone has re-added Brother Bear. Unless I'm mistaken and mis-reading it.

Also, I saw that episode of CSI and didn't even recognize you. Good work Wil!

Wow... a celebrity with principles? Really? I didn't think there were any left.

Don't let it go to your head, he only has principals because he's a Fark editor.

Where I come from, we call that integrity.

I define it as doing the right thing, even when nobody is watching.

Bravo Sir.

On a completely unrelated matter, congrats on the poker [wilwheaton.net] things [pokerstarsblog.com] . I played WSOP Event #16 on Friday, June 17th (details can be found here [drownedattheriver.com] ). I was half wondering if I would see you there.

I hope your cards run better than mine did... It's tough to be on the losing end of good decisionmaking, but the experience was worth the entry fee, and I know that I'll be playing in at least an event or two next year. What a rush...

Top entry under "Filmography" still has it.

Fixed, and added a heading "Films incorrectly attributed to Wil". Any guesses how long that lasts? My thinking is, if someone sees a name and thinks it's you, they'll just add it back in. If they see the note saying, basically, "Yes, I know, we saw that too but you've got the wrong guy", there's at least a chance that the glimmer of the clue-fairy might visit them. Worth a shot anyway.

Me, I give that heading 2 days, tops, before it's cleaned up by a "We don't use that heading" type person.

By the way, Wil, you rock. And that Hooters waitress doesn't know nuthin'.

Well, that was quick too. (1)

djh101010 (656795) | more than 9 years ago | (#12943131)

As expected, the note "Wil wasn't in Brother Bear" didn't stay on your page on wikipedia. Someone commented on your slashdot journal in the talk page and cited that as a reason for removing the "Wil wasn't in Brother Bear" lines that I added. Whatever...

IMDB change (1)

ruprechtjones (545762) | more than 9 years ago | (#12939114)

I put in a change request at IMDB, but I've done it before and it feels like my feedback goes nowhere. Hey, maybe it's serendipity and some idiot casting director sees Brother Bear, calls your agent, and lands you the biggest role of your life. Come on, wierder stuff happens down in that city every day.

Given Murphy, a More Likely Scenario... (1)

"Well, I was going to ask DeNiro at lunch today if we should test Wheaton as the meth junkie nephew for Bobby's next Oscarbait flick, but my toddler has been wearing out Brother Bear in the van's DVD player and frankly I'm sick of the guy's voice."

The change has already been queued (1)

Dark Coder (66759) | more than 9 years ago | (#12939993)

I did an edit on the biblio and it appears that the change is already made and is awaiting moderation (acceptance).

G'luck on your life throughout the universe and everything.

you realize.... (0)

Anonymous Coward | more than 9 years ago | (#12940137)

of course, that around this time tomorrow there will be Brother Bear bootl^Wsatirical parodies, with your head shot pasted in overlay, released under the same name, claiming you have those aliases, don't you?

Use the Talk Page, Wil (2, Funny)

wowbagger (69688) | more than 9 years ago | (#12940245)

True, Wiki may not allow you to edit your own main page, but I would think you certainly could go to the talk page on your page, and say that you didn't star in the movies in question, that IMDB is wrong, and provide a link back to the appropriate page of WWDN to back it up.

That way, when somebody else comes along and makes the same edit, others will see your comment on the Talk page and correct it.

There's ALWAYS a way around the limits of a system - of all people you should know that! Just invert the antimatter flow!

Editing Wikipedia (2, Informative)

PyRoNeRd (179292) | more than 9 years ago | (#12941153)

It's not disallowed to edit Wikipedia pages about yourself if you make sure that the edits you make are factual in basis:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Don't_creat e_articles_about_yourself [wikipedia.org]

"Some of us feel that even editing an article about yourself is best avoided, on the same principle. If you do so, please only add verifiable information and be especially careful to respect the neutral point of view. Noting objections or corrections on the talk page may be appropriate."

BTW I loved your role in Brother Bear.

Har har only joking (haven't even seen that)! :-P

I tried to submit a change for Brother Bear... (1)

artifex2004 (766107) | more than 9 years ago | (#12941190)

All the cast information is listed as "locked." So I had to settle for a comment entry, which they'll probably not place. If you have denied these credits on your blog somewhere, let me know, as a reference gives the assertion more authority :)

oops I meant on IMDB (1)

artifex2004 (766107) | more than 9 years ago | (#12941210)

not wikipedia :)

I fixed another thing for you.... (1)

Anonym1ty (534715) | more than 9 years ago | (#12942218)

You were also linked to Boys' Night Out (1962 movie) [wikipedia.org]

I kinda figured you weren't in that particular one, so I changed it to Boys' Night Out (1996 movie) [wikipedia.org]

-and to the disambiguation page.

Contacting IMDB (0)

Have you tried contacting them?
They have a page over here [imdb.com] for that purpose.

They also have an FAQ about correcting your own information, over here [imdb.com]

Where is it unethical? (1)

Quantum Jim (610382) | more than 9 years ago | (#12947213)

I don't see where in the Wikipedia:Editing FAQ [wikipedia.org] that it's unethical [wikipedia.org] to correct factual errors in articles about yourself. Where you thinking of another page? (Not that I have that problem... if only I did! ;-)

Yes, however... (1)

michael path (94586) | more than 9 years ago | (#12974775)

I've gone ahead and incorrectly attributed you to the character of "Joe" in "Joe's Apartment".
