Journal pnutjam's Journal: contagious disease 3

So I'm having a birthday party for my oldest girl, she turned four on Thursday.
All of my wife's family that lives in town is coming. My family is mostly out of town for the next week.
The problem is her crack-head neice has got herself infected with scabies????!!!!!
I'm trying to decide what to do, I don't need a bunch of kids with scabies. My wife isn't supposed to know her neice has scabies so I'm not sure if we can get her to just stay home.

  • That's quite a dilemma. What concerns me is the fact that your wife isn't supposed to know. If by her not knowing, the neice ends up coming, I think it would be irresponsible for the family not to want to inform someone (namely, your wife) who may have prolonged contact with the individual. Of course, I don't know the situation, so it may be more complicated than that.

    • Thanks for the response. The individual in question is in fact an adult. She is a "boomerang" (left the house and had to move back). The situation has since been settled by politely asking her to skip this engagement. I offered to get together with her and her parents at a restaurant where the kids won't be trying to climb on people and play.
Of course this blew up into a huge unpleasant deal. Such is life...
I wouldn't h ave been comfortable exposing my other guests to this anyway
      • Good for you. :)

Glad that it worked out, at least somewhat.
This reminds me of an extended family member who for one reason or another, got a severe case of lice. We saw her in a mall one day while visiting that state and went up to exchange pleasantries. She decided it best not to tell anyone that she had this lice infestation until after she had given everyone hugs (!) and had brushed up against all of us. Then she announced that she was visiting the salon (!) and that they had refused to cut her hair
