Journal Chacham's Journal: Verbiage: On DS9: Two shallow characters 7
I just started re-watching DS9. I should get all the episodes this time around.
There are two extremely shallow characters on the show. Kira and Winn. I always liked Winn for even though she was so one-dimensional, by the end she sort of had a little depth to her and her evility was more due to who she was than a choice. Almost as if she didn't have the capacity to do otherwise. Kira however, has the ability to not be so shallow, but she refuses to fight her impulsivity, like an impetuous child with out any discipline. And her "inner fights" she has so often are always which desire is stronger, never which is right. Except they pawn her off on the show as being spiritual--which is highly insulting--and when the prophets chose her as a vehicle, i realized the show couldn't be perfect. So while i like hating Winn, i wish someone would re-master the show without Kira.

Why are there no sports in Sci-fi's?
Simply because they are written by non-athletic geeks, or is there a better reason?

I don't think we ever find out the details - there are quite a few references to it being a very physically demanding game in which players are often injured, but I can't recall ever actually seeing it played in an episode.

Sliders tried it in one episode. Pretty terrible, but at least it was interesting.

That's where i though she repressed her feelings. I'm going to have to watch for it this time around, but i think her face showed the emotion, as if it was fighting to come out, which it finally did at the very, very end.
Basically, she did things by rote, and then began to believe. The character is supposed to be shallow, and there was a certain sweetness in that.
Well, i'll have to watch some more and see if th
