Journal glh's Journal: It's already august 4

Amazing how we are only 5 months away from the end of 2005. Looking back on this year so far and I can say time has flown by, and I'm about where I was hoping to be (house, family, church, career). I'll probably post another JE about that in the near future.

Got to go to the zoo over the weekend. It was a lot of fun. Our daughter was feeling a little sick toward the end of the day and threw up twice after we got home. We think she was teething. Our sister-in-law had some homeopathic tablets that she gave her (that supposedly work great- but I'm always a little hesitatnt about that sort of thing). I'm wondering if that caused the vomitting or if it was something else. She had a low grade temperature the day before so it could have been a virus or something.

Overall the weekend went well. We had an irrigation system installed in the front / side lawn. Had two truckloads of dirt delivered today so the lawn should be final graded and seeded this week. I'm trying to find some good sprinklers for the back yard since we didn't irrigate that (would have blown our budget). Any recommendations? Ideally I want to buy one or two sprinklers (100x100 area) that I don't have to move.

In other news, I'm trying to get some more memory for my PC so I can install Virtual PC and Visual Studio .NET Beta 2. Unfortunately I need about 2 GB to run it in the Virtual PC, but I only have 256 MB ram. I am told I can get by with about 800 MB (slowly), so I still need to buy a gb memory ddr. I got a gift cert for $50 at tiger direct and I'm hoping to find some decent memory there.

  • Were they the Hyland's teething tablets? FYI, those kinds of homeopathic tablets only have the scantest traces of the actual "medicine" in them. The rest (like 99%+ of it) is just a lactose base (sugar pill). I would be absolutely dumbfounded if that caused her vomiting.

What about heat exposure? My little brother used to be *really* sensitive to the sun, and would get these sick headaches and then throw up. They got better as he got older, but not until he was into his teens. We learned to keep him as coo
  • We've use the Hyland's teething tablets for all of our kids with surprising success. Never any type of side effect, other than calming them down when they're extremely fussy.

FWIW: My Virtual PC running VS2005 and SQL2005 is set to use 512 MB of RAM, and my laptop has 1.5 GB RAM total. The performance is great, but I have not installed VS2005 on a native system, so I have nothing "real" to compare to.
    • I think it was the Hyland's teething tablets and I am guessing that they did help, and it probably was the heat... She is still pretty fussy today so my wife is going to take her to the Doc's.

512MB seems pretty good for VS2005 + SQL2005. I want to install Team Foundation Server as well. Are you running IIS? I think I will order 1gb from Tiger Direct now that I have the gift certificate. It's still going to cost me, though. I may buy one of the overstock 256MB sticks so I can put 1.5 total in there.
      • Ugh! There's a snotty-nose-causing virus going around (my 16mo twins have it now) that seems to cause ear infections too... There's another homeopathic solution for ear infections that we use (ear drops) that seems to work, but I can't remember the name. Of course, we get antibiotics from the doc, but the ear drops combined with Tylenol is to soothe the fussiness. G/L in your endeavors. Yeah, my "DotNet 2.0" environment VPC is running Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6.0 is installed. Not running Team Found
