THE MAJORITY OF INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS WILL BECOME NON FUNCTIONAL. PARTIAL TO COMPLETE WALL AND ROOF FAILURE IS EXPECTED. ALL WOOD FRAMED LOW RISING APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL BE DESTROYED. CONCRETE BLOCK LOW RISE APARTMENTS WILL SUSTAIN MAJOR DAMAGE...INCLUDING SOME WALL AND ROOF FAILURE.
HIGH RISE OFFICE AND APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL SWAY DANGEROUSLY...A FEW TO THE POINT OF TOTAL COLLAPSE. ALL WINDOWS WILL BLOW OUT.
AIRBORNE DEBRIS WILL BE WIDESPREAD...AND MAY INCLUDE HEAVY ITEMS SUCH AS HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES AND EVEN LIGHT VEHICLES. SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES AND LIGHT TRUCKS WILL BE MOVED. POWER OUTAGES WILL LAST FOR WEEKS...AS MOST POWER POLES WILL BE DOWN AND TRANSFORMERS DESTROYED. WATER SHORTAGES WILL MAKE HUMAN SUFFERING INCREDIBLE BY MODERN STANDARDS.
THE VAST MAJORITY OF NATIVE TREES WILL BE SNAPPED OR UPROOTED. ONLY THE HEARTIEST WILL REMAIN STANDING...BUT BE TOTALLY DEFOLIATED. FEW CROPS WILL REMAIN. LIVESTOCK LEFT EXPOSED TO THE WINDS WILL BE KILLED. If Katrina makes landfall at its current strength it will be the second strongest hurricane to ever make landfall in the US.
BTW get the fuck out of Mississsippi and Alabama too. Katrina will still be a category 2 well into Northern Mississippi and Alabama.
They say if the storm surge tops the levees protecting New Orleans it could take as long as 6 months to pump all of the water back out of the low-lying areas of the city.

Yea, way to show compassion there bub.
Oh and those gas-guzzling SUV drivers will just love the gasoline prices come Monday. A full third of the US oil production is effected by the hurricane, one of the major import terminals is directly in the hurricane's path, and several large refineries are being shut down due to the hurricane.

It is not the refineries you have to worry about. There are innumerable drilling platforms that will have to be towed back to their wellheads, repaired, and reattached. There are many, many pipelines that will be damaged, and this will takes months--if not years--to fully repair.
Gotta love that oil dependent economy. Too bad we're not like those damn peace-loving communists [energie-schweiz.ch].
