American Refugees Exist! Fact.

Let's not corrupt our language just to save face, or to disseminate PR(opaganda). The word means what it means.

You have them in your country now. Deal with that reality and vote with your hearts -- give with your hearts (but stay off Paypal for Katrina donations).

The problem is that there are several definitions of the word.

The basic definition is "one who flees in search of refuge", and that applies to this situation.

There are other definitions [wikipedia.org] of the word, and some people are applying them as well. Mostly for PR, but that's politics for you.

Either way, English changes, it's not a static language, so I don't see it as corruption.

that's it, just groceries. I'll donate food direct to a foodbank that is taking it to those people, like I did last weekend. Been reading too many reports about how the red cross wastes money, and how the feds kept turning away help into the region. New Orleans is going to be rebuilt no matter what the federal, state or local governments do, or in this case, don't do.

Now, we have a choice, let the people rebuild it the same way they built it the first time, or help them and rebuild it with a proper flood-control system.

Either way, it's going to be rebuilt.

The best one I've seen yet- bulldoze the whole city. Put pipes in joining the lake and the river and the ocean. Put a platform on top of the pipes, dredge out the river to twice it's current depth and put the dirt on top of that. All the water flows UNDER the new city.

I wouldn't be surprised if the refugees end up getting more aid from foreign countries than from America. It's just hard to fathom; why we do bother having a government if it isn't here to protect us?

Actually, I also wouldn't be surprised if the government declined aid from foreign countries but still didn't supply as much to its own citizens.
