What brought down Martha Stewart? $40,000? I don't remember.

First Scooter and Turd blossom, maybe Dick, now Harriet Miers' $26.000 problem. Such arrogance....

The land in question is near my mother's home, I know it well. "Vacant lot of weeds" would be a overly flowerly way to describe it. There's no argument to be made for it being valuable. I can't imagine it even being worth the $2/sqft they reached in mediation. It's a windfall at that price!

Now I understand why she's so fond of GWBush. They're cut from the same crooked, lying, entitled-class, cloth. I'm sure they see the world the same way. He's appointed her to the court because he thinks he's going to need friends as high as possible in the judicial system in the near future.

He's probably right about that. This is what he does best, he calls it "political cover."

  • I just realized YOU turned me on to Wonkette!

    as for the topic...

He won't need them. He's already placed people high up enought so that if he and Cheney went down in flames they'd both get pardons.
    • Ahh, Ellem, you warm the cynical cockles of me heart.
    • I was Wonkette before Wonkette was cool. I remember the original ass-fucking references! She is so hot it makes me cry like a schoolgirl in a back alley photo shoot....

I know the pardons are coming, it's not really the individuals I want stomped out of existence, it's the mindset. I'm hopeful.
      • If politics wasn't corrupt what we have to talk about on /.?

        My 2 thoughts on this:

        1. Bush isn't one inclined to issue pardons, particularly for the 'help'.
        2. The nature of the incitments will be such that issuing pardons will be politically difficult.

Well one can hope at least. Then again the kool-aid drinkers will likely think that all of the GOP legal problems of late are due to a vast conspiracy by us all-powerful 'liberals' who are 'crimi
  • and one of the comments to the story there [thinkprogress.org] notes that for tax purposes Miers has been claiming to still be a resident of her home in Dallas. This appears to have saved her over $10,000 in local property taxes on that house, and if she has been doing the same for Income Taxes (as Bush and his dad did) then potentially thousands more in MD or DC income taxes if she lives in one of those two jurisdictions.
