Ok, maybe not quite, but that they're still being asses.

I'm always fascinated by how certain people always seem to think they're on the right side in a moral fight, but they never actually are. How, exactly, does one make a case for absolute morality forbidding this practice, even though it clearly is meant to harm and hold back individual workers to the benefit of people in a thriving company that are already obnoxiously rich?

Absolute morality == failure.
Wal-Mart Supporters == failure.

The last thing I bought there was one of their loss-leader products, a $73 air conditioning unit that they tried to hide so you'd buy one of the more expensive models. I've always wondered how long it would be until my refusal to shop at Wal-Mart resulted in an "Anti-Economic Terrorism" bill that required that at least x% of my income be used at Wal-Mart and related megastores on a yearly basis. I should start up a pool so people can wager on it.

  • 1. The Memo is a suggestion to the board, not company policy (yet). Painting it as such is dishonest, and there's plenty of company policy (no unions, substandard wages, forcing small businesses out of business, etc.) to get upset at Wal-Mart about without misrepresenting a suggestion as bonafide company policy. If you want to convince people that our side (assuming you aren't actually a conservative mimicking a liberal stereotype to be a straw man) then you're going about it all wrong.

      • Intel took three of their 533mhz Northwood processors, widened the bus, and labeled them with a "C" when the 3.0 came out: 2.4c, 2.6c, and 2.8c. I have the 2.6c because back in October of 2003 when I was building the system, Newegg had a special on it and it was only $5 more than the 2.4c. I don't care so much about the speed, just wanted the 800mhz FSB (IIRC, AMD didn't offer anything with an 800fsb at the time which is the only reason I went with Intel).

          The Intel chips get a noticable increase when you move to a faster bus, because unfortunately the P4's spend a lot of time starved for data. It's also one of the reasons the Pentium M core is far more similar to a P3 than a P4.

          • Yea, but remember, this is two years ago. The loss of that wide bus on my processor would have also resulted in a significant loss in the bus on my memory too. Overall, the system performs pretty well (well.. did perform pretty well) considering I only paid around $600 for the whole thing. If I were rebuilding it today though, I'd definitely go with the AMD.

            As far as the replacement vid card... I'm looking at a Radeon X800 and a 6600GT. IIRC, The 6600GT has a much beefier memory and clock rate, but the Rade
