    • Old enough to be alive for the entirety of when he was president. Young enough not to be drawn in by the rhetoric. Oh, and younger than one of Btzlu2's favorite bands/namesakes(The last one in his name).

        • You could also point out how great the 1980's was.

"The rich got richer and the poor got poorer" is a lie. "Decade of Greed" is a lie as well.

What decade saw the largest increase in minority owned homes? The 1980's. Yes, more and more black people (who Bush sent Hurricane Katrina after) were able to buy houses during the Reagan Administration than at any other time in history, except for... (wait for it).... now, during the Dubya Presidency.

          • You know, the largest sustained peace time growth in history.

All predicated on mainlining cheap oil and gas that will surely last forever, right?

And not an artificial dot-com bubble.

What's going to happen when people discover they can't afford to keep their cheap chipboard and plastic wrap houses heated, if we run out of the cheap oil and natural gas? We've already passed peak oil production in the nation decades ago (we had to depend on the Saudis opening their pipes to put us back into a glut) and if

        • He was an actor. I've heard actor's speak. No big. Ya want a dem Reagan, elect Martin Sheen. Only he'd be president Esitvez.

Carter was paralyzed. He couldn't get the congress behind him because he was an "outsider" and he insisted upon micro-management. He refused to use military force to free the hostages, and Iran actually waited until Reagan was sworn in to release them, just to burn Carter. Carter was useless.

America was far fucking greater under Ike, the Roosevelts, Truman, Wilson than it was un

I disagree with this sentiment - I think the Iranians saw the inauguration of Reagan as "Uh oh - This cowboy might turn our sorry piece of shit sandbox of a country into green glass" and let the hostages go.

Moammar Khadaffi learned the hard way that Reagan was not afraid to bomb terrorist scum.

            • The hostages were waiting on the runway until useless peacenik Carter was no longer president. Just to burn him. Then of course later, the reagan administration sold arms to Iran to fund fun activities in South America(Chile, I believe). And arms were sold to Iraq to fight Iran. And now we're into a whole lead up into Gulf-war 1/2 - sideways drilling thing.

I bear no love for Carter either. I bear a little for Gerald Ford for doing a great deal to mend the country post-Watergate.

Carter-the-former-nuclear-sub-dude wasn't the peacenik you portray him to be -- after all he had an arch-hawk like Brzezinski advising him. He mainly was reluctant to use force in Teheran for fear of goading the Soviets into intervening and thus triggering World War III (the commonly suggested likely scenario in those days was not a war starting in Europe, but in the Middle East) -- or by pushi

            • The hostages were freed because the Reagan Adminstration negoitated with Terrorists. Arms to Iran and cash to the Contras.
          • America was far fucking greater under Ike, the Roosevelts, Truman, Wilson than it was under Reagan.

Ugh. Truman. The President who started the Cold War, and our current plan of "let's not try and understand the enemy, let's just call them evil and run with it."

As long as Bush doesn't cause the rest of the world to start boycotting us, Truman goes down in my book as "Worst, President, ever..."

Regan... ah, at least he did what he did well. Then again, he's also to blame for the "it's Morning in America" pre
