Chacham's Journal: Nonsense: Guess that book

In the spirit of Page 23 i'll quote a book, you guess the book and/or the author.

Very large bronze statues that move are symbols of wealth, income, and the acquisition of bronze because of the movement of the bronze. But statues that are exceedingly large, however they move, portend fears and extraordinary dangers. For their movement is fearsome and naturally strikes terror into those who see it. But statues made of stone or of any other material should be interpreted by the same standards used to interpret the statues of the gods. Furthermore, the statues represent the leading men in the city. Whatever the statues do, therefore, or whatever happens to them determines what will happen to the leaders of the city or what they themselves will do.

But I would guess that it is either history, a la Declien and Fall of the Roman Empire or a fantasy novel.

OK, a hint. The book was used and referenced by Freud in one of his major works.

The Prince [amazon.com] , by Machiavelli? All of my Psych professors were anti-Freud so I never read any of his stuff in college:-(

OK, i thought someonbe else might jhoin in. But no, so here's two more hints that basically give it away.

1) It's around two thousand years old.
2) It's a book on Dreams.

Neither psychology nor dreams are my thing, but from those clues and the bibliography of The Interpretation Of Dreams, I'm going to go with Oneirocritica, of which Freud would have read the translation of the translation, Traumbuch Apomasaris by Johann Lowenklaw. But it's just a guess.

This was too hard. I may be spilling my ignorance here, but I'm stunned that anybody got the answer. What next? Something from a translation of Klingon poetry?
