Journal Ra5pu7in's Journal: Some actual New Year's Resolutions 4

Okay, I'm going to actually make some real New Year's Resolutions and see where they take me. Most of these are already in progress or are tangent to other things in progress since I make decisions to change things all the time. However, these give me a little more concrete goal to work toward. The last is because I believe enjoying life is as important as everything else combined.

1) I resolve to exercise at least three times a week and keep track of certain stats so I can see the improvement.

2) I resolve to finish my resume, print it out, and get it to at least the one person who keeps asking for it.

3) I resolve to purchase a minimum of two more slacks and four shirts/blouses that would be appropriate for a less casual workplace.

4) I resolve to be on time for work every day rather than within a half-hour so there's no bs about tardiness when I turn in my notice.

5) I resolve to fly a kite, go swimming at the beach, go hiking at Castle Rock and Big Basin, and do more star-gazing this year.

Some actual New Year's Resolutions

  • I've been working out on a two days on, one day off pattern since the sumer, and I feel much better. Except for the whole baggy clothes problem. :-) My standard workout starts with a mile and a quarter on the treadmill, at varying speeds (I usually finish in about 13 minutes, so I am not going terribly fast; but this is down from sixteen or seventeen minutes when I started). Then I do two sets of five weight stations (seated rowing, bench press, pull-downs, horizontal butterfly, and vertical butterfly) a

That's a very good problem to have. :D

I actually had in a good exercise program last year (based on something from the hacker diet rdewald was talking about over a year ago). Unfortunately I hit some snags around June and never got going again. One of those snags was letting someone who decided to compete with me make me feel like I wasn't getting very far. Keeping track of how many push-ups and crunches and weight/reps I can do so I can see the progress is
      • The trick to exercise, like everything else in life, is not to compete with the people around you.

I still find myself doing it subconciously. I might have decided to do high rep, low weight and then all of a sudden I find myself thinking, "I can lift more then that girl..."
  • Kite flying is awesome. I have two great kites sitting in storage right now and your resolution reminded me of them... I need to plan a picnic that involves kite flying.

Always draw your curves, then plot your reading.
