A) It was affordable (including paying for delivery [seller rented a van and showed up the next day, 4 or 5 hour drive each way]) as I got it on ebay for a steal.
B) Length. E250 servers are VERY long. A friend has one and he get a regular, generic (not networking components only, I mean a phone-booth style) and the server stuck out the front and the back.

In my little server room I only have a Sun Ultra 5 (plus 250GB disk) - a media server and firewall/router/etc. and a VAX. I suppose if you work for Sun it's prolly a bit easier to get hold of the kit to put in the rack at a decent price.

I still deal with Sun things in my new job, but I left to more than double my pay. Now I work for the largest employer in the US. Yep, the Federal Gov. In my case, the DoD (more specifically with the Navy). I get to do nearly all of the things I loved of the old job, minus the actual classroom lead teaching part for more pay, less stress, better management, you know the deal... Maybe I'll pick up a

I've heard other nice things about working there as well. When I taught at PSU the one Math professor was fed up with a few things and left to teach there for a seemester. I think he liked it, but it was a longer drive for him so when PSU gave in he went back.
