Journal m50d's Journal: Take two 7

I have just pressed enter on "emerge -e system" for my second attempt at installing gentoo on a 486. So far there has been no output. My eventual goal is to run KDE on it. I will post updates as and when things happen.

Take two

Comments Filter:
  • It's begun calculating dependencies. Last time this took approximately 24 hours.
  • It's now on libncurses, the third of 93 packages in the base system. This appears to disable distcc, and was approximately where the last attempt failed.
    • My bet is on three weeks :).

And at least a minute-a-pixel mouse movement when KDE starts...if your term lasts that long, that is....
      • I think 3 weeks is being overly optimistic, myself. We'll see how long ncurses takes (it's still running)
  • The build of ncurses failed. I'm going to sync again and hope there's a new version with whatever the problem was fixed.
