  • ...but also a good object lesson in cherry-picking unrelated points of data to fit a thesis, or simply making up/faking evidence. It should be noted that Von Daniken was sentenced to 3.5 years jail for embezzlement and fraud (where he wrote his second book, "Return of the Gods"), and currently runs "Mystery Park", a UFOlogy theme park; this doesn't strike me as being the record of a trustworthy, impartial researcher, more like that of a pseudo-scientific hukster out to make a buck off a credulous public.

    • Unfortunately Von Daniken is still around and there are people willing to put a microphone in front of his mouth. Discovery Civilisation have a piss-poor documentary about giants where Daniken offers his opinions.

        And not once tried he to convince to slay my neighbor, something all major eligions at some point have done. He's a hell of a fact-spinner, true, yet as far as I can see it's sincere and transparent. It's just entertainment, folks. Chill.

        • Yep, compared to most religions he's a fairly harmless crank.

          The thing about him that most annoys me is that he's trying to undermine the achievements of ancient man and by extension modern man. That and the fact that he gets paid to do it narks me off a bit too. It reminds me of the Christian thing where people can't seem to take responsibility for their own actions - it's all part of God's plan.
