FortKnox's Journal: How Nintendo Can Compete Better with MS and Sony

Nintendo is a console that has its audience. The kids. Every game is fun for all, but usually geared towards children.
They've been trying to break into the teen/young adult demographic, but its been in vain. Sony has staked their claim there, and MS is trying to compete in the same demographic.
Now would be a great time for Nintendo to jump over both systems, and its a simple move.
Nintendo buys Sega. That would immediately give them better sports games than the rest of the consoles, and a HUGE library of quality games. Not to mention that the Gamecube is already cheaper than the other two consoles. I'd love to see Nintendo back on top in the console wars.

I'm actually debating buying a Game Cube. It's got all the games that are fun to play when you have a group of friends over, Mario Party, Super Smash Brothers...

It's got some great games out or coming out that are right up my aley, Eternal Darkness, Ikaruga...

The only thing it's missing are the Final Fantasy titles, which is the only thing I can think of that I would want to play on the PS2, and there aren't any games that I can think of that I want on the XBox.

I would love to see Atari back on top in the console wars. I would also love to see the return of the Amiga and the C=64. Why? Nostalgia. But other than that I can't think of a reason.

Nintendo is doing fine in their area of the market. I don't see why things would be better if they "dominated". The Gamecube came to market a year later than the PS2 yet is less powerful. You can bet that if the Gamecube had come out first they would have a larger market share. This is Nintendo's own fault.

I've got a GameCube, and two games - Super Monkey Ball and the recently purchased Super Monkey Ball 2. Both are amazingly good party games. Why? Because everyone (including people who don't play video games) can actually play. As a bonus, they have a great, skill based single player mode. What perfect console games.

And it's an exclusive from Sega.

I think Nintendo is doing an adequate job securing exclusives (so what if they're mostly first party titles - they're great) and marketing their console. Historically Nintendo has abandoned consoles fairly quickly, but I don't think that will be the case here - I predict that long after there's a HomeStation and a PS3 the GameCube will still have new games.

And it's cheap. If people can't figure that out, then nothing Nintendo does is going to sway them.
