Journal Jugalator's Journal: Wah!? Slashdot makes me stupid! 2
There is a site whose motto is "Internet Makes You Stupid" and perhaps there is some truth in that statement.
I usually try to say things only when I have something to say on Slashdot. From moderations done, it seems this has been a good way to go. It is also the way I'd like others to act as well to keep the topics of as high average level as possible.
However, recently, I've started having trouble and either I'm freaking out at a subconscious level, I'm developing a sense of humor and wit that's ungeeky or whatever that makes me fail to post decent things ("decent" as in "posts that aren't modded down"). Perhaps... hopefully, it's just a temporary... fluke.
I even tried a good old Star Wars reference in the Napster: The Movie topic to check my sanity, but even that one, in all its holy geekiness, wasn't moderated whatsoever.
Oh well... Just to let you guys know I'm not trying to give silly comments. Honestly.
Stupid ? (Score:2)
You've just discovered what slashdot really is. At first you were moderated up, because each post you submitted was first weighted, checked, reviewed to ensure it was interesting and appropriate. Remember how much time a single post took back then ?
Now you're used to it, and you're modded down because you post under the urge of posting _something_ instead of posting something _interesting_.
But you should not worry about it, because this is what slashdot really is. Everyone posts crap sometimes, sometimes without even realizing it (trust me, sometimes I look at some of my posts and bang my head against the wall).
You'll get the rythm back. The simple fact that you left comments enabled on your journal shows you're open-minded enough, and disregard the moderation system !
The slashdot rules
- As long as you provide signal, noise is irrelevant
- If you contribute, you will speak louder
- And, of course...

I guess you also have to consider the fact that Internet is open for anyone with... well, an Internet connection, causing a huge variety of individuals reading the forums and, due to Slashdot's moderation system, a large number of moderators from different cultures. One might have to keep this in mind before thinking "wah!? I didn't mean to flame anyone!".
