  • Even for organic life, respiration isn't needed. Never seen a set of lungs on an amoeba, never will.

    Excretion? Better make sure that tree outside doesn't take a dump on me (the exchange of gases is more like respiration than excretion).

    I would say "Define organic." Then, "Now explain why life has to be organic."

      Dammit! I had that planned for the next JE... But yeah, it was also discussed in the link. The division is much blurrier than our friendly dualist would like to admit. And we are getting very close to making our own, out of dirt! HAHAHAHA... Well, okay... more like out of 'soup'.

  • I'll go for it with this wholly original formulation:

    Life is a stable information system
    implemented against the periodic table of elements,
    which imports nutrients and energy, and
