I didn't think the second book lived up to the first. The was some ridiculously overdone gore (and I am typically quite insensitive to gore in books) involving Zeus and his golden ichor and his intestines trailing. And what was with that section for a while where everyone was watching Odysseus have sex on TV?

Troy was not that bad a movie, I liked the way he played Achilles. Some parts got drawn out too much but overall not bad.
I was more disappointed by Orlando Bloom playing Paris.

May I suggest this 4-part series by Tad Williams--"Otherland" [tadwilliams.com]. The first one is the best but was good throughout the whole series. I came across the 1st volume from the used book section in a consignment shop and got hooked. Somehow he manages to tie in a large number

I got "Shadowmarch" after the Otherland series and can't stand it. I think I am still sitting at page 100 or so after a year. I want to strangle the female protagonist.
I like the cyberpunk theme (I own everything William Gibson has published) so maybe that was why I liked Otherland but the detail he went into with various things was amazing. One of the books was rather drawn out (#2

I meant that we both loved "Hyperion", but really strongly disagreed on "Otherland.". Have you tried the "Saga of Pliocene Exile"?

Of course that list currently fits on 3 3x5 sticky notes, so might take awhile to get to.
