Eeerm: help (only interesting for techies, really, I guess)

  • It's been a while (about five years) since I've tried to do this sort of thing (I had a copy of YellowDog, but you might have better luck with Mandriva Linux [mandriva.com]), but this is what I recall:

    1. The HD needs to have been formatted with MacOS before. If it hasn't, the system likely won't work with the drive. (I forget the exact details.)
    2. Boot from the CDROM. I believe this is done by holding the C key down during power-up.
    3. Install Linux.
    4. Profit!

Okay. The last one was a stretch. You get the idea, tho
    • Thank you for the prompt reaction! Step 2 is the problem point: it won't boot. CD's are okay, I tested them with the ibook and that boots like it should. It's the Startup-disk-controlpanel that doesn't quite know what to do, I need a bootloader. *bigsigh*And then I need it to work *biggersigh*
      • I wish I could tell you more. The "C" trick is about as clever as I can get with a PPC system. (I'm assuming that this is a Mac or Mac clone, and my experience with them is fairly limited.)
