Journal GigsVT's Journal: Europe's slide toward fascism. 8

NPR is running a story about how many countries in Europe are "moving to the right".

Surely it is to the "right" but more specifically, it's moving toward fascism. NPR, with their neo-liberal leanings, wants to frame this stuff as "right wing" when it's clearly the beginnings of fascism.

The uniting force in this movement is a hate for Islam, a fear of Muslims that are immigrating to these countries.

What is interesting is that it is the most socialist countries that are moving this way. This reaffirms the theory that neo-liberalism inevitably leads to socialism, and socialism inevitably leads to fascism.

The logic of the voters confirms what many Libertarian (or classical liberals) have said all along. They interviewed one former socialist voter from France. She said (paraphrased) "The government needs to do something about these immigrants, I don't like this guy but I'm going to vote for him anyway because he'll clean up the country".

The slide of socialism to fascism is a logical one. If the government is providing lots of services to the residents of the country, then every immigrant becomes an issue of national concern. Every immigrant is a potential leech on the fruits of "my" labor. No one can be free because everyone has to be accountable to everyone else. When things go bad, this transfer of wealth breeds hate, hate against any identifiable group that has immigrated and can become the scape goat.

The only solution is to let people control the fruits of their own labor. Socialists want to make everyone interdependent, "as long as those dirty Muslims aren't getting any of my money". Freedom can never coexist with a system of coerced wealth transfer.

Only if your government has so much power that it matters. Once you strip the government of unnecessary power, it doesn't much matter who controls it, as long as they can't expand the power of government into areas that it shouldn't be.
  • Why are the immigrants leeches on the welfare system? Why don't they have jobs? If there aren't jobs for them in the unskilled or semi-skilled areas, they shouldn't be let into the country. If there were jobs for them, they'd be contributing.

At the same time, these countries need to work on removing lingering xenophobia and get the immigrants to assimilate. In the USA, Latinos and Asians who assimilate not only work with their other-colored friends and co-workers, they go out drinking, partying, golfing

Why are the immigrants leeches on the welfare system?

Because the welfare system exists to leech off of.

      Why don't they have jobs?

Thousands of reasons, you can't know individual motivations.

If there aren't jobs for them in the unskilled or semi-skilled areas, they shouldn't be let into the country. If there were jobs for them, they'd be contributing.

If there were no welfare, it's a self-regulating system. No one will come unless there is a job for them. If there is no job, they will leave. Everyone wins,
      • You seem to misunderstand. Why are the immigrants considered leeches, but the citizens are not? They both use the social programs and safety nets provided. Proof of legal residency should be a requirement for using the welfare systems, that would take care of the illegal immigrants who are leeching.

So keep the welfare, because the citizens want it.

It is a problem, but it's not one for the government to solve.

Why isn't it? Immigrants that don't assimilate and want to remake the country like their own are

Why are the immigrants considered leeches, but the citizens are not?

Because it's a good excuse for trying to eject a culture from a country.

Socialism breeds this hate, this resentment. When you give the government the power to take away large chunks of your work, and redistribute it, you expect some say in how it's redistributed. What would be a simple cultural friction becomes a huge problem, since the fruits of people's labor is on the line. People might be OK with it if their work goes to support pe
          • You say the hate and resentment is against all immigrants. I say it's primarily against those who don't want to assimilate.
