tried everything on hand. meditation, banging my head against the wall, counting about 32 species of animals, singing boring doors songs, nothin'.
stuck in a hotel and i just can't sleep. i'd take tylenol pm, but it would keep me groggy all day tomorrow.
bah!
so what do you do when you can't sleep?
c) just say, "screw it" and stay up for 48 hours straight
r) snort warm milk up your nose
a) watch tv until your iq falls 50 points
p) ???
ah back to bed to toss and turn some more.

Melatonin is also a dietary supplement that's kinda like a sleeping pill -- but not really. Doesn't leave you as groggy the next day, and you can always take just a half. It's one of those metabolism things that is related to serotonin and tryptophan and stuff.
Also Xanax is pretty good. But you need a prescription for that. No

the circle idea is interesting, but my mind would keep zooming in on the period until it started reaching the quantum level, then i'd want to know how small it could get before it was reduced to quarks and other subatomic particles and i'd have to start reading about it on the internet, and then my mind would be racing at all the stuff that occurs at the quantum level.

I developed it based on one way my dad taught me to meditate (counting to 4 repeatedly) and times in my life when I have felt vulnerable, exposed, and scared. Creating a pyramid around myself makes me feel secure and protected and

what do I do when I can't sleep , I get really reaaally tired. then I get grumpy.

Usually for me, reading works far better than anything else. TV just helps you languish in the tired zone- but won't ever push you over the edge. Adverstisers call this their "Happy Place." ;-)

No, seriously: contemplate silly things. REALLY silly things.
Eventually you'll either fall asleep or feel better about not sleeping. Working yourself into a stew about it doesn't help.
Get up, go play videogames. Quiet ones.

I think the farthest i had ever gotten was my thighs before the alarm woke me the next morning.
Doesn't work for everybody, but it's worth a try.
