After 12 Days: Story Submission Still Pending

Right so I submitted a story on March 2nd pondering whether there were more vista installs or uninstalls. Now I'm not whining that my story has not been posted. Of the 6 stories (other than this one) that I've submitted to Slasdhot 4 have been rejected 1 accepted as is and 1 accepted by clustered with other stories.

It's 12 days later, and the story is still "pending". Does this strike anyone else as odd? I did put it under the "Ask Slashdot" section - so maybe questions take longer than stories. Who knows. But I find it odd that I'm 2 days away from the 2 week mark and the story is still in submission limbo.

Odd? Yes... (1)

It does seem a bit odd. I once had a submission in "pending" for over six months, but I think that that was a bug. It's possible that Ask Slashdot submissions hang around a bit longer, though. Can you see the state of the story through the FireHose?

I think the editors try and space the ask slashdot stories out, I've seen several that I had seen in the firehose over a week earlier.

Of course, if the question was exactly as posted here, then it probably should be rejected, since # installs must be greater than or equal to the # of uninstalls ;)

Ah, but you see I'm asking if after-market uninstalls (of OEM installationS) outnumber CONSUMER installs. Or, alternatively, if more OEM installs of Vista are removed than are kept. Either of those is an interesting question to me. Obviously if you count all installs, then installs are greater than or equal to uninstalls.

I did major in math you know. :-O

I do all the computer ordering for my department and I'm having to ask (Dell, Gateway, etc) to NOT install Vista. My users aren't trained on it and I'd rather wait 'til it's been in use for a while and stabilized from all those unpaid bug testers out there. I can't just order a new PC straight from the web without Vista these days - I have to get a sales critter on the phone and special-request it. When they stop offering XP altogether, I'll be reformatting and installing XP when the new machine gets here.

I didn't even know you could ask for them to stop putting Vista on. I've just been getting rid of Vista and installing XP Pro. I've actually tested Vista Ultimate for a while. I think it's definitely better than XP Pro - but I wouldn't pay more than $20 to upgrade. The vast majority of the improvements are cosmetic, and it requires relearning a lot of stuff. If I'm going to be dealing with relearning stuff and problems with my programs not installing correctly, I'd rather at least be learning linux or something else that will serve me better in the future (by being free).

Not to get drawn into a pending contest, but I had one linger for a year. I think it sometimes just falls through the crack. You know, the kind the mods are smoke.

"Can you see the state of the story through the FireHose?"

I honestly haven't tried. I guess I'll go see if I can or not.
