Zip it! Sung to the tune of Devo's "Whip It"

Crack that whip/ Give the past the slip
Step up attacks/ Before they see the cracks

When a problem comes along/ You must zip it
Before the cream sits out too long/ You must zip it
When something's going wrong/ You must zip it

Now zip it/ Into shape/ Frame it up
Get straight/ Go forward/ Move ahead
Try to deflect it/ It's not too late
To zip it/ Zip it good

When a good time turns around/ You must zip it
They will never live it down/ Unless you zip it
No one gets away/ Until they zip it

I say zip it/ Zip it good
I say zip it/ Zip it good

Crack that whip/ Give the past the slip
Step up attacks/ Before they see the cracks

When a problem comes along/ You must zip it
When the cream sits in too long/ You must zip it
When something's going wrong/ You must zip it

[repeats to fade]
Now zip it/ Into shape/ Frame it up
Get straight/ Go forward/ Move ahead
Try to deflect it/ It's not too late
To zip it/ Zip it good

I was thinking of it as an old iconic-cycle. And that the S&L/DU combo is a shoe that fitted really well here.

SubPrime was a joke with Greenspan as the punchline. Now... no one is laughing anymore. Popcorn on which way it'll play out.

The funny thing is you think people would see it coming especially given how recent the dotcom bubble had been.

I wish I could just sit back, munch popcorn, and wait for the big finish, but I fear if this implodes as bad as it looks like it might, just putting food on my family is going to be a real challenge.
        • first day of spring-food question+"start a garden".

No lie, you can make an amazing amount of "money" with a backyard garden, and it is practical "food insurance". Add a small greenhouse over it and it turns into a year 'round venture. Actual return on investment and payback per hour is really great, plus, the freshest organic veggies and fruits possible, and no middleman or "just in time" supply chain needed. the economy could crash, and you still have *food*. No joke.

Good idea, too bad I don't have a "yard" much less a "backyard". I live in an in-city apartment on an air shaft without even a window box (not that the window box would get much natural daylight anyway).

I'll consider it if I find a place with a yard that I can afford.

            • sprouts! Easy to do, instructions all over the net on "howto". You can start with the traditionals, mung bean, alfalfa and radish seed, and go on from there. Only use "food" seeds, don't use treated "garden" seed. Just about all health food stores carry sproutable grains. Top of the fridge as the sprouting area usually works pretty good I have found.

Anyway, I have had apartments before, so I know wazzup there with the "no yard" action, I just looked for space outside of town and grew gardens there. Since I
