Journal Reality Master 101's Journal: Oracle disses McNealy 5

ShadowRam had a hilarious story about Oracle dropping the hammer on McNealy... see it here.

I have to admit, I hate McNealy with that idiotic smirk he always wears. I hate Ellison more, but it's still funny seeing McNealy crawling back to Oracle trying to get his keynote spot back when they gave it to ... Michael Dell! Oh man, that is sweet. :)

I've said it before, but if we have to have a software monopoly, given the choice between Gates, McNealy, Jobs or Ellison, I would take Gates hands-down. Thank god it's not Ellison. The man is insufferable enough.

Oracle disses McNealy

  • I'm aware of McNealy's fascist leanings from past reports I've read about him, but I have heard nothing of Larry Ellison. What makes you despise him? Links?
    • You can probably turn up lots of Ellison stories by searching for "larry ellison jerk" or "larry ellison womanizer", but probably the definitive work on Larry Ellison's jerkiness is this book [amazon.com]: The Difference Between God and Larry Ellison: Inside Oracle Corporation: (God Doesn't Think He's Larry Ellison)

I should say that Ellison truly appears to be a brilliant guy. He just doesn't "get it" when it comes to actually treating other people with respect.

What particularly amuses me about Ellison is that he even looks like what you would expect Satan to look like if he appeared in human form. :)

  • I'm sure this is a rather tame story, but: I knew a girl in high school who's dad was an Oracle exec.

Actually, I knew two such girls. High churn in the upper ranks, I gather. One of those two girls was at an Oracle holiday party, and was chillin' with one of Ellison's secretaries. So they start futzing with his computer.

Somewhere in his contacts, he had a section titled "Hard Drive". Brilliant, no? So, they examine, and there was a list of about fifty women's names and phone numbers - with between 1 and 5 stars next to each name. Awww, isn't that sweet?

If all else fails, lower your standards.
