Journal jchenx's Journal: Waiting ... 3

All close friends have now been accounted for. Now we just wait for "the list" to appear, in case there are faculty or old acquaintances that may have been victims. I already have friends of friends who knew the deceased, which shows just how tight-knit we are even though it's been years since I graduated, and it's such a large school. A bunch of us are also spooked, since we've lived in the "now notorious" buildings (AJ, Harper) and spent lots of time in Norris (classes, club activities).

  • And glad you're ending up where I ended up, with noone you really know amongst the victims, sad though the event is.

Interesting note about the prof who laid down across the door to block it while urging his students to escape out the window. That was brave.

Yup. Unfortunately, that professor also died in the process. Definitely a true hero.

Also, there was at least one Comp Sci (CS) class that took place on the 2nd floor. From what I've heard, the professor was out that day, so the GTA took over (hmm, wonder if it's someone I know). Fortunately thanks to his quick thinking, he and his students barred the door and prevented the shooter from coming inside.

I imagine we will hear many similar stories in the days to come.
      • The interesting thing from my viewpoint (personal) is that frequently the most unlikely person is bound to be the most courageous and the most likely person won't be courageous.

However, I've also noticed that it's situational - many people who frequently are heroic when put to the test, have times when they don't act that way, and even those who fail to be heroes in most circumstances will sometimes be heroes.

We are all complex creatures, more than we realize.
