Journal Full Metal Jackass's Journal: Joining windows together 3

Does anyone know of a window manager that allows the user to join two windows together? I quite often find myself swapping between two windows (eg a web browser and a terminal window) and it would be convenient to link them in some way that I can easily see them both at once and have them act as a single window (minimize/maximize together etc).

Joining windows together

  • ..if you want and have the capability to go 3d, beryl has some really nifty plugins to this effect.
  • the simplest way i can think of is to find a window manager (fluxbox at least does this, so do many others) that supports tabbing and grouping windows, you can do this with beryl too, probably with alot of other things too.
  • Have you considered using virtual desktops? Rather than attaching the windows together somehow, you could arrange the windows onto desktops, and configure keys to switch between desktops.

I don't think anyone has done anything to manually group windows together the way you ask (nextstep derived systems tend to automatically group child windows in a similar way) but I haven't used a lot of the window managers that are running around out there.
