I just ordered a new gun. You can see it here.

I wanted something different for hiking, plinking, and possibly hunting; and I think this should do pretty well. Also, the .41 Magnum cartridge has appealed to me for quite a while now, even more so after I read The Probability Broach(see here for the graphic novelization).

A good friend of mine has several Rugers, though none of their revolvers. I've heard that they are quite nice though. BTW, have you ever been to The Reloading Bench [reloadbench.com] website? They seem to have a lot of cool info on various cartridges [reloadbench.com] there.

I've had The Reloading Bench in my bookmarks for quite a while now, it's an invaluable resource.
If I didn't reload, I could hardly afford to shoot (esp. my oddball calibers like .308 Norma Magnum). My father-in-law probably wouldn't get to shoot his S&W 500 much either, if I didn't reload for him.

Rugers are pretty popular here in my hometown, I suspect it's at least partly because Ruger has one of their factories here and it's one of the larger employers in the area.

I have two Ruger revolvers. My GP-100 [ruger-firearms.com] is as shown in the link. I use it as my trail/camping gun - as it can fire snake-shot. I always keep a speed loader ready for that need. I wish I had the longer barrel though- then I'd be comfortable doing some real hunting with it. But I got it for an incredible price, so I can't complain.

Oh man, I want a Single Six .22lr now. That does sound like a great plinking gun. It says it's MSRP is over $400, could I ask what you paid?

Check out galleryofguns.com . They're a major wholesaler for Ruger (and others), they let you browse their inventory and then if you're interested they'll show you a list of your local dealers that they'll ship it to and what price you'll pay at your local dealer (I guess they have all the dealers specify their markup for the website). The MSRP on my Blackhawk was $495, but I got it for $370.

I bought mine over 7 years ago. I went to 2 local gun stores (Glendale, AZ) and ended up paying a higher price because the owner of the place with a cheaper gun was rude. I don't remember exactly what I paid - but if I had to guess I'd say $350 - maybe. I know it was more than $300 and less than $400.

I would love a MKIII. But that Single Six was the last gun I bought. I remember exactly when it was because my first daughter was born around 6 months after I bought it. I've had 2 more kids since

I was just over at one of the local gunshops (Bill's Trading Post in Prescott, AZ if you care) and he had a Single Six Convertible (22lr/22 Mag) for $240. If it wasn't brand new, it looked like it was.

I own a ruger new vaquero .45 (long colt, but that name is arguable) in a 5 1/2". It is a fun gun, but I don't shoot it much since it's spendy ammo and I also own a CZ 40P which is practically a tac driver - at least for a semi auto. I definitely want a Ruger Vaquero or a Blackhawk in a 5 1/2" .357 Magnum next. A friend has a .357 7 1/2" Blackhawk stainless that is very nice. .357 Magnum is more reloadable than a .45 since the .45 has too think of a casing, and with a .357 you can also shoot .38 Special.

If ammo is getting too spendy, you've gotta start reloading. With my home-cast bullets I can shoot .38 Special for less than all but the cheapest .22LR ammo. .45 Colt should cost less than $0.15 per round to reload.

For my father-in-law, I knocked the price of 500 S&W Magnum down to around $0.50 each from the $2.00 he spending on ammo. Those would be even cheaper, but the hard-cast 440gr gas checked bullets aren't cheap.

I'm not generally much of a wheelgun guy either. My daily carry piece is a Daewoo DH40 semi-auto in 40S&W, I love my circa 1917 Luger and M1911, my first handgun was a Ruger 22/45, and I don't think there's any gun prettier than a Browning Hi-Power.

BUT, I always shoot better with a revolver, I like the power you can get from a revolver that would take a whole lot more $$$ in an auto, and a single action revolver really scratches this funny nostalgic itch I've recently acquired (I may have to start looki
