so... i've gotten mod points eight times this past month, after not having any since ~august 2004. (i emailed myself a few times because i got them once a week for a bit, and i wanted to see if it was related to day of week). i have not noticed any variations in the frequency with which i visit slashdot, except that maybe since the weather has turned for the warmer (northern hemisphere) i'm out more evenings...

That probably has something to do with it. I recall reading somewhere that people who spend a lot of time on Slashdot will never get mod points, no matter the karma or anything else. I rarely get mod points, but if I ever spend some time away from here, I almost always get some when I come back.

so how similar are the slash settings on /. to the default settings? i dread trying to look through the slashcode discussion forums - and the source code. i just discovered that slash on debian is broken bacuse it depends on apache, not apache2, so manual intervention and/or dependency resolution looks to be my future.
