Journal einstein's Journal: Upgrading my .sig 6

I've been using this same .sig on slashdot just about since I've had an account, which must be late 98, early 99, at the latest. anyway, I was still in highschool when I wrote it, that's for sure. Geekcode seems horribly out of touch with the times, I mean.. look at what it has to say about Macs! sure the lack of command line bothered me then (would even more now, with how much at home I am in bash these days) but today, the new Macs make me drool. That is just one example of how dated that geekcode is. For prosperity's sake, here's the old one:

GIT/CS/PA d- s: a--- C++++ UL P+ L+(++) E- W++(+) N o? K? w O- M- V PS+ PE- Y+ PGP- t++(+) 5(+) X+ R tv+ b++ DI++ D+

of course, use the decoder page to translate it.

Now, for my new .sig... all the "Cool Kids" seem to be linking to their journal entries. that's a lot of pressure :) I mean, I can barely keep my webpage updated with anything relavant :)

can you tell it's a slow day at work? :)

I think I'm gonna leave my .sig blank for the time being, till I think of something catchy. I know lots of people use it as there tiny little Slashdot ad space. If I ever have something interesting to go to on my website, I might do that.

What do you think makes a good .sig?

Upgrading my .sig

Comments Filter:
  • If you don't want to link to your page, then link to something fun, like this [ravenblack.net], this [gtonline.net], or maybe this [somethingpositive.net].
  • A quote that makes you think, makes you laugh, makes you stop and think about how the world is, or all of the above.

I had quite a few I used to like, but now that I've got so many fans, I do the journal thing (to get more fans) ;-)
But I recently added the "paradox of a man" which is tied to my user info (wonder if anyone caught that?), which is what my sig would normally be about, if I didn't do the journal thing.
    • quotes are good, but usually not if many others have the same quote.

i've always been amused by the .sig [slashdot.org] that this guy [slashdot.org] uses. but ymmv.

my .sig probably isn't all that witty, amusing, or enlightening, but it is entertaining to me as a reminder of the stupid things i do sometimes. it also (hopefully) reminds people not to take me too seriously. i can sound more emphatic than i am sometimes, though i think it is more a problem with my spoken communications.

i used to have "Der Papst hat in Spiez das Speckbesteck zu spät bestellt" as my .sig, but it took me a while to spell it right, as it is a german translation of a swiss german tongue twister. looking back, it makes me wonder what could possibly have made me think that was a good .sig to have.

  • Are links to somewhere interesting. (Not, not just autopr0n!!) :)

I have found a lot of interesting websites by following peoples sig. I also find it interesting to go to someones homepage, and read a bit about them. It tends to make the slashdot 'experience' a bit more personal and interesting.

I find the sig often effects the tone of my responses. My .sig is quite negative, and I need to change it. Maybe people will write nicer things in response to my gibberish if I had a friendly sig.

    Cheers

    • Ok, so you inspired me. I changed my .sig too. Now it points to my website, with nothing more than a link to a freeware application my brother and I wanked out playing with OS X.

Not much about me (my sig really lies), but will be some day. Maybe it will inspire me to put some personal things up.

  • Will you link to my journal then? ;)

    Sigs are overrated, anyway...
