Well I just spent way more than I originally intended to on some speakers and an A/V reciever. But the sale was way too good to pass up.
What I got:
4 x AV123 Onix Reference 1 Monitor Loudspeaker in piano rosewood
1 x AV123 Onix Reference 100 Center Channel Loudspeaker in piano rosewood
1 x AV123 Rocket ULW-10 Subwoofer in satin rosewood
4 x x-series / Reference 1 Speaker Stand
1 x Wood Technology MU-C Center Speaker Stand
1 x Denon AVR-3808CI Reciever
They threw in a free pair of their x-s speakers (new unreleased model) which are supposedly similar to these. I'll probably end up using them with my computer or at work.
I also have:
Vizio VX37L - 37" LCD HDTV
For the price the Vizio is an excellent display. At some point I'll probably upgrade to a Panasonic TH-42PZ700U, but not any time soon.
I still need to get a progressive scan, upscaling, DVD/SACD/CD player. I'm punting on the whole Blu-Ray vs. DVD-HD thing until the prices on combo players are a little more reasonable or the format war appears to be going one way or another.
I also haven't decided if I will get Comcast, DirecTV, or Dish yet (or at all since the housemate and I mostly watch DVDs). Supposedly Dish has the best DVR at the moment and the most HD content. (though HBO HD and Universal HD are all I really care about).

Yea, in fact that is my main "source" other than DVD right now. Any Seattle area station I care about is doing OTA HD. As you may or may not know the best HD source other than blu-ray/HD-DVD at the moment is OTA HD broadcasts. Cable and the sat providers compress the hell out of the HD signals they carry. The FCC has put limits on how compressed the primary OTA signal can be for broadcast stations.

The best thing to do is run an antenna up to your roof from your set, if you want clean HDTV signals in Seattle.

Depends on what you mean by "best." For those of us outside of Seattle, no. If you want lots of channels, no. If you happen to be in range and want the best picture, yes.
I am quite happy with the 75 or so HD channels I get via DirecTV (including NBC/ABC/CBS/FOX out of Seattle). If I lived closer to the city, I could attach an OTA antenna to the DirecTV HD DVR to get the locals that way.

Someone correctly said that, for most people (most Americans live in cities), you can get far better HDTV reception by using the broadcast airwave channels, which are far higher quality than the cable channels which are digitally compressed.
You then ignored that that statement was true for something like 99 percent of Americans and proceeded to digress that if you lived in a rural area you can't get decent reception.

Go buy satellite - it's probably the best choice, but it still will get far worse reception than we in the larger majority get from picking up the stations clear and uncompressed off the airwaves.

That's the market reality. There is too little ROI for industry to worry about rural HDTV users at this point, and that situation will most likely continue until somewhere between 2016 and 2020.

Well even if you have Dish, DirecTV, or cable I recommend putting up an OTA antenna. For the channels you receive the picture is much better.
While I'm in the middle of the city I'm picking up some far away channels with nothing more than an old set of rabbit ears. I'm sure if I put up a large roof antenna I could get even more. The one that blew my mind the most was occasionally being able to pull in KVOS in Bellingham. Also I'm able to get KBTC in Tacoma which has a marginal at best signal in Seattle.

For you, yes. For me, no. :-) I wouldn't put one on the roof, and in the attic, I can't get enough height to deal with the trees and mountains around me.
