Okay Kiddies, put on your thinking caps. It's quiz time!

  • Something to do with "House of Cards"? I know of the show, never watch it.
    • No, no, this is real life, very current news. I've never seen House of Cards... but somehow the serendipity of that is remarkable, very appropriate... I hope it needs no further explanation, but I can elaborate if you wish. Suffice to say, it will probably die in the tabloids.

  • This have to do with the purported pedo?

    • Spoiler alert!

This one has a cast of thousands, as you probably saw when you read the stories. Let's see what angle the 'liberal press' will run with. The name of the game here is 'containment'

    • Not 'purported', he went to jail for a year in the case where the NPA was arranged by none other than Dershowitz himself, very astute! This stuff is top dollar chutzpah.

        • Not really. With your eye always on the TV, I thought you would have caught this one. Is it not playing on your pjmedia?

          • "My" pmjedia? Aren't you the one who brought it up?
            • "My" pmjedia?

Yes sir, it's where everything you post always leads. The story has lots of democrats, big ones, I'm very surprised they (and you) are not engaging in a feeding frenzy over it. The Heidi Fleiss thing was comparatively tame.

              • Every time, including when I don't.
                • :-) Yeah, and then you're pimping some trash from amazon. S'alright man, I can dig it...

                  • So you'd prefer a review of a reference, in lieu of a link to the reference itself? Fine. I'm not selling anything in either case.
                    • reference to what?

                    • To that which is the object of the reference.
                    • I have no idea what you are babbling about. I guess you win again...

                    • *sheesh!* First you pimp amazon, then you expect me to read something that requires a login?! Please, if you wish to refer to something, make sure it's accessible first. thankyouverymuch

BTW... That's quite a claim there. If it wasn't for the French aristocracy, you would still wake up every morning standing for the queen, and probably would have been happier with its more 'conservative' government. Definitely a Tory.

                    • If it wasn't for the French aristocracy, you would still wake up every morning standing for the queen

                      Counterfactual.

                    • Not at all, but I figured you would dismiss it out of hand, being outside your box. The French Navy and French money bought you everything. Your war for 'independence' was a proxy war between Britain and France. Truth hurts that badly, does it?

                    • Sure, I live right by the Washington-Rochambeau Trail [nps.gov]. But to state that in the intervening centuries, some other means of overthrowing the British would not have presented itself is to wax confident about the unknowable. History is what happened.
I don't really waste time on alternative history. But by all means run with it, if that's your thing.
                    • I see no disagreement there. As I said, without the French working the 'Eastern Front' and direct help to the North American Taliban, you'd be singin' a different anthem, just as proudly as the one you sing now.

                    • I give that a B+ troll.
                    • I give that an C- cop out :-)

                      Peace out!

                    • Copping out of what? You're trolling; I've appreciated it. If you really think that you can find anything in American history that equates to the kind of religious devastation the Taliban visited upon Afghanistan, I'd like to hear it. I do recognize that this is Slashdot, where dodgy equivalencies go to thrive, so [golf clap].
                    • Who says the devastation has to be 'religious'. The natives of the time would have considered the European tyrants every bit the same as the terrorists the US supported in Afghanistan. The invaders completely wiped out entire cultures and killed most of the people, leaving very little behind. These are the things you can't/ won't recognize and will never come to terms with your 'ultimate' truth. You find it most uncomfortable. Your dismissals are simple cop outs. • Who says the devastation has to be 'religious'.

The word Taliban [wikipedia.org] carries substantial religious weight.

                      The natives of the time

                      Native Americans, Colonists, or who?

the terrorists the US supported in Afghanistan

Do you mean the Mujahideen [wikipedia.org]?

The invaders completely wiped out entire cultures and killed most of the people, leaving very little behind. These are the things you can't/ won't recognize and will never come to terms with your 'ultimate' truth.

Can you specify which invaders, the target culture, and the specific time? I gather that I'm supposed to, on the one hand, view all cultures as morally equivalent, while stipulating that European cultures in general (and England's U.S.-specific follow-on) are uniquely bad. That's some complex hooey, so I need more detail to keep it coherently structured.

Your dismissals are simple cop outs.

I'm calling your bluff, yes. But I thin

                    • There is no bluff. I don't care about your denials. You are blinded by the things you bond and identify with. That is all.

                    • Well, at least you're not denying reasoned argument or something illiberal like that, damn_registrars.
                    • :-) Who? Where does he come in, aside from being your doppelganger in the other corner of your little cube there? Red's probably right. One of you guys are giving all the voices in your heads [flixster.com] a Slashdot account.

                    • I have neither time nor inclination for a sock puppet. I think I may have had a troll account over ten years ago, but the name escapes me.

          I'd prefer a hefe, myself.

      • by gmhowell ( 26755 )

I didn't read enough of it to know whether it was 'purported' or not, and erred on the side of caution.

But with the Dershowitz angle, I'm gonna have to read into it.

        • Have some fun with this [mondoweiss.net]. The comments are worth reading.

And from my favorite theorist [wordpress.com], who, like Men in Balck, gets his intelligence from the Mail and Inquirer... Well, not just them, but the shtick is great.

An authority is a person who can tell you more about something than you really care to know.
