No, no, this is real life, very current news. I've never seen House of Cards... but somehow the serendipity of that is remarkable, very appropriate... I hope it needs no further explanation, but I can elaborate if you wish. Suffice to say, it will probably die in the tabloids.

BTW... That's quite a claim there. If it wasn't for the French aristocracy, you would still wake up every morning standing for the queen, and probably would have been happier with its more 'conservative' government. Definitely a Tory.
Not at all, but I figured you would dismiss it out of hand, being outside your box. The French Navy and French money bought you everything. Your war for 'independence' was a proxy war between Britain and France. Truth hurts that badly, does it?
Sure, I live right by the Washington-Rochambeau Trail [nps.gov]. But to state that in the intervening centuries, some other means of overthrowing the British would not have presented itself is to wax confident about the unknowable. History is what happened.
I don't really waste time on alternative history. But by all means run with it, if that's your thing.
I see no disagreement there. As I said, without the French working the 'Eastern Front' and direct help to the North American Taliban, you'd be singin' a different anthem, just as proudly as the one you sing now.
Copping out of what? You're trolling; I've appreciated it. If you really think that you can find anything in American history that equates to the kind of religious devastation the Taliban visited upon Afghanistan, I'd like to hear it. I do recognize that this is Slashdot, where dodgy equivalencies go to thrive, so [golf clap].
Who says the devastation has to be 'religious'. The natives of the time would have considered the European tyrants every bit the same as the terrorists the US supported in Afghanistan. The invaders completely wiped out entire cultures and killed most of the people, leaving very little behind. Can you specify which invaders, the target culture, and the specific time? I gather that I'm supposed to, on the one hand, view all cultures as morally equivalent, while stipulating that European cultures in general (and England's U.S.-specific follow-on) are uniquely bad. That's some complex hooey, so I need more detail to keep it coherently structured.

Have some fun with this [mondoweiss.net]. The comments are worth reading.
And from my favorite theorist [wordpress.com], who, like Men in Balck, gets his intelligence from the Mail and Inquirer... Well, not just them, but the shtick is great.
