Power corrupts.

    Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

What nonsense. Although, it made for a few good TOS episodes.

The original quote "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.", is better, but also regard power as the (possible) corrupter.

In a world where people are pure, and only outside forces make a person go bad, such nonsense may be understood. Thankfully, however, this is not the case.

Too true. Corruption comes from inside. It comes especially from when we make a "god" of the self. The "self" works as a "god" about as well as car exhaust works as car fuel.

The real God would never have to "make" a God of Himself.

      Simpsons Movie quote:
EPA Official: S-sir, I'm afraid you've gone mad with power...
Russ Cargill: Of course I have. You ever tried going mad without power? It's boring. No one listens to you!

    • As such, it is not power that corrupts. It is power that makes corruption more noticeable.

We see people as interchangable parts nowdays. This is partly due to a misunderstanding of game theory and an over-extension of the doctorine of equality. Hence the general belief that people are equally corruptable.

Even so, making power distributed makes a lot of sense: the resulting system is less brittle, and is more secure as a result. However, I don't expect those who confound security with control to get that. Vis: "Privacy and security are a zero-sum game". [rawstory.com]
