This comes from stoolpigeon, JC, Smitty, and originally, I think, RM6f9

Post a comment to this thread, and I will:

1. Tell you why I befriended you.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
7. In return, you must post this in your Journal/Blag/whatever.

Apologies for any delays in replying- I'm on the road this week...

    • 1. Tell you why I befriended you.

Originally because of your online publishing stuff. I've just yet to get anything far enough along to make use of it, or any other publishing methods.

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..

I associate you with passion. Especially since I'm fortuante enoug to have met you in RL and seen it in person.

      3. Tell you something I like about you.

Your honesty and complete lack of guile. You are who you are without any reservations.

        1. Your pilot stuff, and desire to write - imagine if I'd met Richard Bach before he became famous...

        2. Wow. Thank you.

        3. your rare combination of tech and legal - two completely different kinds of logic...

        4. Ditto.

        5. Initials and height - the f is to discourage those sophomores too lazy to think beyond innuendo, stands for "foot" - thus, 6 foot 9.

I'll have to go enable the comments...

      The sig. Love the sig;-)

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..

Your handle reminds me of a moon climbing through the night to its peak. I should probably either ask its meaning or google it, but I prefer to think of it as a way of describing the moon's climb;-)

      3. Tell you something I like about you.

You mix humor and insight without taking things too seriously. Agreat combo!

      4. Tell you a memory I have of you.

      Not a specific me

      • Your handle reminds me of a moon climbing through the night to its peak. I should probably either ask its meaning or google it, but I prefer to think of it as a way of describing the moon's climb;-) [...] Nactuarion has nothing to do with a rising moon, does it?

Sadly, no. I had read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and played the Infocom game some time eons ago in high school and the Vogon poem had always stuck in my mind. As I had [mis]remembered it:

Ah, freddled gruntbuggly, thy nacturations are to me
As plurdled globbleblotchits on a lurgid bee...

Thus, as you see, my handle is really based on a misremembering of what turns out to be the word for piss: micturations. So the next time you look up to the moon and a tear forms in your eye, I hope you'll think of m

  • Been a long time since there was a decent meme...
    • 1. Tell you why I befriended you.

I originally befriended you because of your sig and insight comments. The sig was the Twain line about people who can't read have no advantage over those who don't. Plus you seemed to have a great sense of humor;-)

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..

There are several things I associate with you, bestselling author, Master of Plasma, great all around guy; the list goes on.

      3. Tell you something I like about you.

      The writing. Cal

      • 1. That's still one of my favorite quotes. Maybe I'll return it to sigdom.
        2. Blush
        3. Ah, but I am published! In fact, the publicity office is planning on a news feed and media campaign to coincide with my latest publication. I was just working out the details with them this morning. Oh, wait, you mean a fiction publication?
        4. It was good to chew things over with a fellow aspirant!
        5. What should you know about me? That I rarely tell anyone everything they should probably know about me.
  • I have a feeling that it's going to be tough in my journal...
    • I have a feeling that it's going to be tough in my journal...

Indeed. Your fan list is pretty big!

      1. Tell you why I befriended you.

I remembered you from when I was still little more than a lurker back around, well, the turn of the century;-) When I saw some of your JEs and such I went ahead and friended you.

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..

I always thought of you as one of the key nexus of The Circle. You always added to it and never, that I can remember,

      • I always enjoyed your responses because you took the time to explain things at a level that even coding n00bs (like me;-) could understand.

Ask questions! I'm still around and will be happy to answer :)

Nope, not NFLFan, but I did respond to a lot of his/her journals...
  • Always curious why *anyone* has friended me.

Funny how it's easy to know why people have made you a foe, but hard to know why they've made you a friend.
    • 1. Tell you why I befriended you.

Well, to be honest, I don't remember the exact reason why. Usually I will friend someone either because they posted in my journal, they friended me, or, I really like what they have to say. I went back through your more recent comments and I'm pretty sure its the last one;-) Most likely your sig caught my eye and, once I saw that what you had to say was worthwhile I friended you.

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..

      I think of you

  • Let's see if anyone actually remembers me...
    • 1. Tell you why I befriended you.

IIRC, I was cruising through JEs and saw that you were taking a writing class. I've been struggling to practice my own writing for awhile so I am drawn to other people who are actually doing it.

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..

Python. The language. I remember you posting to my python journals awhile back;-)

      3. Tell you something I like about you.

I like the honesty that you post with, both the good and the bad.

      4. Tell you a

      • How are the coding and writing going these days?

Hmmm... I honestly don't remember a writing class. It may have been my short forray into online college classes, just before I got cancer. A lot of that time is fuzzy. I still write short fiction occasionally. I've got a novel bouncing around the back of my head that I don't have the patience to get out. It's probably a lousy novel, anyway. I'm buried in fantasy cliches.

Coding is going well. I built myself a python module that lets me connect through ODBC to the company's AS-400s. It gives me a lot

        • It's probably a lousy novel, anyway. I'm buried in fantasy cliches.

Good heavens, don't let that stop you! It's a wonderful feeling to have written a novel, even a half-baked crappy novel. The sense of accomplishment is rather intoxicating.
  • It's in my journal too [slashdot.org] ... and thanks to Web 2.0 technology, you don't even have to post there - it has a magic "template" with all the possible answers, and, based on your slashdot ID, it checks off all that apply.
    • Even though Web 2.0 has made this obsolete...

      1. Tell you why I befriended you.

TrollTuesday. I came to know you through the venerable Fidel Catsro;-)

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..

Um, trolling. Humorous trolling mind you there guvner, but trolling nonetheless;-)

      3. Tell you something I like about you.

Trolling obviously, but what I really like is your willingness to share your technical knowledge and adherence to OSS standards.

      • Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.

        Is winter your favorite season?

Erm ... Absolutely! With all the snow and ice, they won't find the bodies of everyone who thinks winter is so wonderful until (late) spring. Unles the snowblower comes along and eats them first.

True story: A woman who claimed to be psychic (which REALLY makes this ironic, but I had to bite my tongue about the irony because they're a friend of a relative) opened her front door after the big ice storm, and the front law

  • I'm curious.
    • 1. Tell you why I befriended you.

I remember reading a comment of yours in someone's journal, I think, and I thought you were worth friending. Then when I read your bio about the wax philosophic and mint tea and it was a done deal.

      2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, etc..

I've been in the legal field for a long time, and in every position I've had, save one, I've been the token male. So I am used to dealing with strong, professional women and I love that you give that k

      • Well, how I found out about /...

I found out about Slash Dot through a guy I met standing in line to see the midnight premiere of Star Wars Ep.1 at the Mann Chinese Theater in Hollywood. I think he sent me a link to /. regarding some contest someone was having regarding inventing a roleplaying game. I wandered into the journal section and got stuck there, friended the people who journaled about things I found pertinent, mainly people talking about themselves, I like finding out how others perceive this huma
