Journal sm62704's Journal: This journal is a troll 6

Sometimes slashdot really, really pisses me off. I shouldn't have let this anger me, but God damn it I've had a really shitty couple of weeks. Actually I've had a worse time than you might gather from reading these journals, but I write to entertain both you and me, and if I just made a whinefest neither one of us would get much good from the exersize.

Harin_Teb made a comment that I though was factually incorrect, so I did a fast bit of research and discovered that it was I, not he, who was wrong. So I commented about that and quoted my reference, which happened to be the US Constitution. I said

The primary power of the presidency is the establishment and implementation of foreign policy

I was going to rebut this and say that as Chief Executive his primary duty is enforcement of Federal Law, but the Constitution [cornell.edu] says I'm wrong. From Article II (the first section of this article says who can be President and How, etc)

Section 2. The President shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states, when called into the actual service of the United States; he may require the opinion, in writing, of the principal officer in each of the executive departments, upon any subject relating to the duties of their respective offices, and he shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.

He shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, judges of the Supreme Court, and all other officers of the United States, whose appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by law: but the Congress may by law vest the appointment of such inferior officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the courts of law, or in the heads of departments.

The President shall have power to fill up all vacancies that may happen during the recess of the Senate, by granting commissions which shall expire at the end of their next session.

Section 3. He shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in case of disagreement between them, with respect to the time of adjournment, he may adjourn them to such time as he shall think proper; he shall receive ambassadors and other public ministers; he shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed, and shall commission all the officers of the United States.

Section 4. The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

I rather like Section 4. Gasoline costs three times what it did when Bush took office. Why is the Traitor In Chief oil man still President after he obviously started a needless war to destabilise the middle east so that he can enrich himself at the expense of the American people and the lives of the brave servicepeople he is commander in chief of? He should be impeached, tried, convicted, and put in front of a firing squad.

The comment was modded "troll".

God damn it, it was opinionated but for God's sake that's my opinion. If you want to change my mind then reason with me, show me some facts I either was ignorant of or show me a citation that shows that I'm wrong.

Modding someone "troll" because you disagree with them is just plain wrong, and it's stupid.

Someone has a sig that fits this situation perfectly - "Karma: Excellent. Try again, modboy".

Oh, BTW, whoever modded that comment "Troll", know that your mom is a worse piece of ass than Bighead but she doesn't charge as much. ;P

  • I've seen stuff like that when I metamod. Someone else's sig seems to understand it too, something along the lines of -1 troll is no the same as 'I disagree.' The redundant thing can piss me off too since mods sometimes don't check timestamps and just assume since it's further down the page it's newer, and therefore redundant. You just have to suck it up and let people try and feel important, no matter how insignificant they are.

That's true. They caught me on a bad day, I went blind in my left eye Monday night and that's just one thing that's got me in a bad mood. Fortunately my sight will clear up in a month or so, but right now I'm in a really bad mood.
  • If I feel an emotional reaction to a post while modding I do my best to simply ignore it--If I can't mod using my head then I shouldn't mod. I wish others would take this approach.

When metamodding, over half of the posts modded troll I metamod as unfair. I simply don't see it. Perhaps I'm dense but I don't see how disagreeing (even if it's not entirely tasteful or articulate) with another poster or the general groupthink should be considered a troll. Hell, even if it is a troll, if it encourages intelligent

Oddly, one comment [slashdot.org] I made yesterday was intended to be funny and it was modded +5 interesting instead. At least one slashdotter noticed, as he remarked that it was obviously intended to be funny.

So I guess it goes both ways. Or maybe yesterday's mods read this journal.
