So I'm going to write to google and see what they say.
I'll be making the application under the Irish Data Protection Acts as described here:

Just in case anyone thinks I'm doing this to annoy Google - I'm not. It's just a simple test. The result is going to be (a) Google were really nice and did exactly what I asked of them in a friendly way or (b) Google laugh me out of their office and get me to sue.
The person I have to write to is Graham Law (http://www.google.ie/intl/en/contact/index.html) who doesn't have an e-mail address, so I have to use the old snail mail.

I want to make a request for my personal information under the Data Protection Act can you tell me what information you require in order to complete this request and what fee you charge for this.

I'd do the same (well, to Google UK) except I reject cookies from Google, so there's not much point as far as I can tell.

I've written to Mr Law to find out exactly what he needs from me in terms of data. (I found ironic, though understandable, that I cannot contact him by e-mail).

Similar request to them - but at least Microsoft have an e-mail address.

I don't see much point in pursuing the Microsoft, as I have very little to do with them. Excepting a hotmail account that I never use. Google on the other hand, I use a lot - so I'll focus on that.
Still waiting for the reply in the post... (Expect Thursday at the earliest).
