If complex organisms (read: sentient, intelligent beings) ever existed on Mars, then that's where we came from.

Other than that, it's probably never been more complex than simple plants.

If intelligent beings ever existed on Mars, then the Earth's fossil record proves that's not where we came from. If they were microbes, we could've come from those.

It may have started to progress earlier, but was killed back to a lower state. I doubt it ever reached our level, though.
