The Matrix is a system, Neo.

Jeremiah Cornelius (137) writes | more than 6 years ago

The Matrix 1

"That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it."

Morpheus was too vague (1)

Morpheus should have been more specific when describing the "Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters" that are "so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it."

Businessmen - whose corporations receive subsides from tax payers.
Teachers - whose unions strangle the government school monopoly.
Lawyers - that bring frivolous lawsuits, lobby for bureaucracy, and often become politicians themselves.
Carpenters - that are illegal immigrants exploiting government 'assistance'.

So many of them, have become so dependent upon the system, that they now fight to protect it, and that makes fixing it nigh impossible.
