  • Nice comment, but actually saying aloud you're a girl in a gender-specific discussion on slashdot seems to always gets yourself lots of karma.

However, the comment was good... I agree on that. Glad you enjoy working with computers. Many people doing CS, don't do it for the passion anymore. It's become a study like doctor and lawyer... Guarantee to have a good job. Well, that used to be: the dotcom fiasco did change some things. Perhaps the new freshmen have again that "passion" in them? I surely hope so.

    • Good question about the passion for CS. I'm a senior, but I haven't seen many people in the past two years who were in CS for the money. Out of all the CS majors I know, I probably do the least hacking for fun (although I've done it on occasion). I'm a theory girl, honestly.
      • Haven't done hacking in years.... If you have a job, things change. I wish I could do hacking more. I just don't have any inspiration anymore, everything I come up with exists already. I spend all my time chatting and emailing. :-)

People who go into CS for the money (well used to go into CS for the money) are always the first to fall off. You need to like it. I personally liked all the theory about computability, turning machines, etc. I never was good at proofs however. Haven't done that in years either. Guess, my passion has gone away too. I wish I got it back, but beyond tinkering with BSD and Linux, I don't get much done anymore.
