This story at CNN talks about a family that was on sale on ebay before being taken down. Cute idea, but a bit expensive.

the *real* reason it was pulled (1)

From the father's eBay description: "if you are the highest bidder, you will receive the adoration from two congenial children...."

Show me the dad that can guarantee that from a child! Forget eBay's claim that they won't traffic in humans, this would have been a fraud case when the above promise wasn't met.

Well, if you're of the ideology that kids should be seen but not heard, than adoration is superficial, and easily guaranteed.

Otherwise, it's simple. If you show a child love and respect, they will show it back to you tenfold. Today, however, if you show a child love and respect, if you're lucky, you'll get strange looks and a restraining order. "Buying" a family may be a nice way to circumvent contemporary social conventions.

$5 million for his family? (2)

That man needs to get a life. What a knob.

While I agree with the sentiment, look at it from his point of view. It's more like he'll move into your house, where you pay all the bills, and he just accepts you as part of the family. And, all this for five million. Not a bad idea.

Would you accept a (decent) stranger as part of the family if he offered you five million dollars?

I would accept a decent stranger ONLY if he agrees to live in my garage. :)

You got electricity and ethernet hook up?

If the answer is yes, when can I move in?

I guess I was being unfair. I mean you're going to pay $5 million, right? The least I could do is install broadband for you. So, yes electricity and broadband are available. :)

No, I think someone's got things backwards... I'm for sale to a loving* home.

* - loving is defined as plenty of power and 'net connection

Oh... so I don't get $5 million for letting you move into my palatial garage? Ummm... no deal. :)
