User Journal 4

Hmm. First entry. Not sure what to say.. not that anyone gives a rats tucchus anyway, but here goes:

Have been surfing LiveJournal.com a lot.. a lot of inane stuff there.. and here I go adding my own inane chatter to the web. Yippee.

Music sucks lots these days.. harping back to the olden days.. lots of old school punk and 242 and other "true" (my definition, not neccesarily yours) industrial bands.

The trolls have finally won. There's nobody left with excellent karma.

Damn, man. I've been hoping you'd start keeping some kind of journal. I've enjoyed several of your comments over the last month or so. Ok, so Jornal On, dude!

Yeah, hard punk is pretty much gone. The music industry has decided that the only punk that sells is the Sum41/Blink 182 style whine. Not that I don't appreciate that kind of music, but obviously it's not your taste.

Heheh. Thanks. Well, I'll try to update it. Dont have any idea what to say, but my inane ramblings might entertain someone!

Actually, you might be surprised at my taste. Did three years in a hardcore band "The Repressed" complete with Mohawks and tattoos, (but that was years ago) and now I play in a bluegrass group. I find things I like in just about every style of music (except gangsta rap and teeny bob crap). The Sum/Blink/cookie cutter stuff is okay, but you can only listen to it for so long before it all sounds the same. I have some of it.. I really like SR71. That kind of inane blistering music is really good windup music!

I also sing karaoke.. mostly old metal songs.. I have a penchant for Iron Maiden.

But when it comes to finding punk on the 'net, first off, its not easy, because most all of it is out of print. So you are stuck asking for people to sell in the newsgroups, or copy for you, or trying to find some mp3 that someone *thinks* is the Buzzcocks, but turns out to be Billy Idol. (yes.. actually found that).

I still have high hopes for Epitaph, mainly cause Bad Religion is still a favorite of mine, and the label still seems to have some semblance of giving a shit about the fan, but we shall see!
Atco is notorious about screwing over artists after a few good years.

I wondered about the bluegrass line in your bio... My dad plays the banjo in an impromptu band that gets together every now and then, but he doesn't play bluegrass. Mostly old Woody Guthrie tunes. Event hough I bought it for him a few years ago, I often joke that he still has too many teeth left to be a banjo player.

I'm liking a lot of stuff coming from Drive Through records lately. I think they're an MCA subsidiary, but I'm not holding that against them right now. Good punk, as far as what's out there these days anyway. Allister and The Starting Line aren't bad. There's a softer band with their label, Something Corporate that integrates a piano fairly successfully with a post-grunge, power pop kinda sound. Like a lot of bands, their older stuff is better.
Actually, the new Flaming Lips joint, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, has been in my CD player at home a lot lately. The reverb and echo are just perfectly done in the songs, not overbearing and annoying like some bands, and it's really fun to listen to. I didn't get into them until the last year or so, but they're really an amazng band.
