JWSmythe's Journal: The magic bouncing moderation

I love the moderation system here. It's funny to watch. This simple post went from -1 to 5 in a few hours. :) I posted a message to the Chinese web server story, trying to be a first post *AND* be on topic (I missed, only got 2nd post). When I looked from my phone, this post was one of the most informative. Viewing from a cell, it only shows 5 comments.

    Anyways, following the bouncing moderation.

I'm surprised you have a phone that can read slashdot. The craptacular javascript hopelessly crashes by blackberry pearl when I try to use it to read slashdot. What phone do you have?

It works, but you have to go to the right page. :) http://slashdot.org/palm [slashdot.org] I've viewed it with several phones, including a Pearl that I had for a while.

A while back, I wrote a note over to Cmdr Taco a while back suggesting that he detect phones, and give them a simplified page. He sent me back the above link. With freeinternetpress.com, I detect the user, and give them the right page, and it works really well. This is the code from my story.php, which simply redirects to

I'm pretty sure you can't get a +5 troll, since to get to +5 you'd have to have a warm friendly rating. When someone tagged you as trollish, that would bring you down to +4. I guess I could peek into Slashcode and look, but I'm too lazy. :) It's been years since I've run Slashcode though. I wonder if they made it any lighter or less cumbersome.

hmm. I've had a similar experience or two but it never seemed to get up that high. JWS is probably right. The system will show what the last mod was but to get +4 Troll you would have to have been +5 something else and lose one point when modded as troll.
