Journal lsatenstein's Journal: Quebec Canada Wants to pass SLAPP Law (Bill 9)

The Montreal Gazette of 8 April 2009, Page A8 reports that a bill was tabled before the provincial parliament to halt abusive suits. The anti-SLAPP law, designed to protect people and groups from abusive, costly lawsuits, was introduced in the National Assembly yesterday. The demand for anti-SLAPP legislation began in the province after AIM Inc, a Montreal-based metals company, sued environmentalists for $5 million after they complained AIM was illegally polluting the Etchemin River, near Quebec City.

It would be great if this law was passed in each of the United States, or was adopted as a Federal law. It could be applied to certain companies who are forcing bankruptcy of individuals and students.
