Autoworkers Compete to Keep Jobs

  • That went from ha-ha satire right into I-want-to-curl-up-into-a-little-ball satire.

It's so close to reality it hurts.

    Cheers,

    • I think it's pure genius... I mean: you get a real problem (Automobile industry on the verge of bankruptcy) and then put it together with the cultural fascination with reality TV shows. Whoever came up with that made a winning combination.

Actually we should have seen it comping: I don't know how it is in the US, but simply think of those reality TV shows where a few people "battle" for a job. I have seen those once or twice while zapping on German TV. This is simply the same, on "the next level".

      • Oh, I fully agree that The Onion is genius, no doubt about that. Just that in this case I'm not laughing, more like hitting my head on the table because it's all too believable. (Which is a sign of a good satire.)

        Cheers,

        Ethelred

        • Just pray that nobody at Fox sees this... They might get ideas ;-)
        • I had that moment when reading The Onion a few years back. It was a "quote" from a guy in Rwanda saying that he hoped they discovered oil there soon so Bush would come and rescue his country, too. Like you said, curled up into a little ball type of satire.
