Well, this is just 'jim-dandy', since I have used 'adblock/+, flashblock, and noscript with 'Firefox' since 'FF' was 'Firebird".

strangely this is the only hit I can find anywhere on it. Maybe it was just instigated a day or so ago? I use pithhelmet with safari which has basically the same effect.
But maybe this is just slashdot's way of thanking people with good karma? (guessing "excellent" karma?)

I just saw it on my /. homepage today. I've got excellent karma (I only troll sparingly :) ). I don't use adblock or its brethren, and the feature worked as advertised: once checked, the sidebar ad disappeared. Nice!

Lets see if we can narrow down what causes this. I have 'excellent' karma and get mod pts from time to time. (I have 1 left atm).

From other comments I've seen, it may very well be Karma. Mine is also excellent, and also frequently get mod points.
I forget the exact discussion/article, but yesterday someone claimed to have this option with Good Karma.

I have another account that I haven't posted from in years, though I still log into it once every few months. That account has excellent karma, and was also given the ad-block option.
My main account (this one) gets mod points every couple of weeks.
