Journal cellurl's Journal: How to market a Speed Limit Database
I run a website containing Speed Limit Signs. After four years of running it, I want to jump start it somehow. It started as a database used in a GPS-based cruise control that went flop, but eventually I started posting signs and letting others do the same. Since then it has evolved into wikispeedia.org the largest collection of boring old speed limits. There is occasional interest and I have sold snapshots for sub-$1k range which gets split out to everyone who contributes. So now I am in the business of information peddling. My governor once seemed mildly interested, but my goal has been to lessen tickets on the roads, so I don't need him as a bedmate. I have seen discussion on slashdot of who should own such information, and I think its fair that I own it. I could make a "community pledge", but what the heck is that. I don't know how to raise "open" money, and I doubt a tip-jar will work, so I am asking slashdot, what should I do?
