Journal Jimmy_Slimmy's Journal: It is all good! 23

Well, I think my trolling of railgunner worked! My heart soars like a hawk.

And then some AC took the time to imply RG is a subtle wit. Wow! What a bonus. Not only does AC not get it at all, she took the time to check the box to post anonymously. Sweet.

Life is good.

Now if only RG and/or cgn and/or r4m will post here. Anonymously, of course. That would wrap it up with a bow on top!

(Wait for it...)

Oh, and if the programmers like cgn would change the perl on "slash code" specifying time limits on using resources, instead of working to make the slashdot user experience better, my faith in the reality of libertarians would be bolstered.

Just saying.

But I must admit, my faith in humanity was improved by this post:

Credit where credit is due, I always say.

Hey, did you all miss me? I'm back.

Yes, I'm a geezer who uses Notepad and the like as an HTML editor. I wish the guys coding this site would.

    • McGrew!

      Thanks for your advice.

But I like to post plain text, not HTML.

If someone wants to see the links I provide, they are welcome to cut and paste them.

And, actually, I know pretty well how to use the primitive HTML that is allowed in my postings here at slashdot. In fact, in years gone by, I have made many hundreds of dollars writing such primitive HTML, including anchors. Using editors such as BBEdit, NotePad, and such. Hey, do you remember TECO? Now there was a man's editor.

I post in plain text, too -- it cuts down on typing all those <P>s and <BR>s. Yhe comment I posted was plain text. But the tags all work in plain text.

        • the tags all work in plain text.

Agreed. I could have said, I only post tags when I want to, and I could have avoided the term "plain text", which on slashdot, has a special hidden meaning.

I don't particularly like posting anchor tabs.

          Did you ever use TECO?

      • If it weren't for Dreamweaver, speech-to-text and text-to-speech software then I would be invisible to the Slashdot community. Only Luddites use notepad. Get with the times people! With sensors that I can attach to my skull, I won't even have to use my mouth to communicate anymore; there will be a direct brain to computer communication channel (64 bit even). Progress is so cool. And to think that Socrates complained that writing was an intellectually inferior method of communicating than orally, and would m

        • silicon. silicone is what you grab when two pouches of it are presented at chest height. and you may be stupid, but you are not (I admit to guessing here) blonde.
          • See; that wasn't my fault, it was the fault of the spell checker that couldn't distinguish the grammatical context for which the word "silicone" would be inappropriate. Based on my own experiences with the word and with the tools to display the word, my brain did nothing wrong. But I'm sure some people will blame my ignorance on the public educational system that deprived me of being able to distinguish the difference between "silicon" and "silicone" and use them in their correct contexts.

            • Well, since you were home-schooled, I understand.

I hope you comprehend the difference now. If not, I expect you to go out and get some field experience and report back as soon as possible.

I truly am sad about the decline of home experimentation in home electronics (silicon) and chemistry (silicone) these days. I just wish I could count on Radio Shack for both, as posted previously...

              DISMISSED!

              • Well, since you were home-schooled, I understand.

Just to set the record straight, I received all of my pre-college education in public school (not home school). Actually my father only made it to grade 2 before he became a full time farm laborer so my parents wouldn't be ideal for something like home schooling. I also have many years of public university and private college experience. I do often post about autodidactism because I have found that (through way too much experience) that the most effective way of learning is not relying on somebody else to t

                • No offense intended, i meant it as a joke. your post talked about the public education system, which I logically reasoned was your background, yet I cracked a joke meant also for others (that it is possible that relying upon home-schooling will eliminate a valuable perspective from education- and I consider even "WRONG" perspectives to be valuable).

so, please accept my apology if my humor offended, i will attempt to do better in the future.

                  • No offense intended, i meant it as a joke.

So I figured. I thought it would be worthwhile to elaborate anyhow.

so, please accept my apology if my humor offended, i will attempt to do better in the future.

You're not that funny, but you are not offensive either. Please try to improve your comedic intelligence.

and in my thinking, every father gives home-schooling; my only objection is to fathers that think "public" schooling is a bad idea. sounds like your father knows many things i might not, though advanced chemistry may not be his strength...

Even as a young child I perceived my parents as being ignorant and pathetic in many ways. They were part of the working class who expected the school system to take care of educational requirements for their children (the middle and upper classes tend to have more intellectually enriching environments, and tend to pressure the "system" to

  • Ask him about his combat jack

  • I'm pretty sure I've seen these exact same arguments posted in other discussions. I hope there is no unreferenced plagiarism going on:

    - "Yes, in fact, it was."
    - "Nope, in fact it wasn't. You're either lying, or ignorant. Either way, it is your problem."
    - "Hey, that's my line!"
    - "A liar, an ignoramus or both."
    - "Nope. In fact, I know what I am talking about far better than you do, and I offered nothing remotely similar to a lie."
    - "Whatever."
    - "Please do not lie. I disregarded nothing."
    - "As I said, go ahead

    • It would not be plagiarism if (s)he also said it first, so I think more research is needed- and, since identity is such a slippery concept, even that may be insufficient.
