Journal Chacham's Journal: Chronicle: Teenager doesn't know what the walkman was. 8

We were talking about music, and i mentioned the walkman was probably the greatest change in recorded music, in that it made music portable. Others disagreed saying the mp3 player was much bigger. What youngsters. One guy turned to his younger brother (age: 13) and asked him if he even knew what a walkman was. His answer, no.

I'm getting old.

  • ...my take on it [slashdot.org], from an older JE. (I just reread it and the comments there and its all free of cuss words, if I have it right that you're the guy who is sensitive to such (in which case you wouldn't want to read my journal in general).)

    • BTW, speaking of when music first became portable, was it the Walkman or the giant-boom-box-on-the-shoulder practice that came first? The latter meme was kind of a contest of how much unportability you had the stamina (and audacity) to make portable!

That's a good question, which came first. Though, even if the boombox came first, the walkman is what changed things.

      Thanx for the related link.

While i do think you misunderstand my "sensitivity", i'm flattered that you not only remembered it, but you also reported on it.

I would link to my JE on it, but i can figure how how to see an index of all my JEs. Or for that matter, why i can edit and delete my friend's journals.

      • I discovered you and your journal after any JE on it, I just read something to that effect between the lines at some point here.

Maybe you've been promoted to a slashdot god. Please don't smite any of mine! ;)

http://slashdot.org/journal.pl?op=list&uid=981 [slashdot.org] seems to show a list of all your JE's.

          Huh?

Well then, let us test these new powers. I just created a new user mailinator [slashdot.org] with a non-mailinator address. Sadly, mailinator.com is not allowed. :) I wrote a JE for a test, subject of "test" text of "testing editting". I then editted it from my account, adding a couple CR/LFs and another "testing

          • It says it was successful, but nothing changed.

Sounds like trying to edit the links in my Slashbox. (It never takes the first time.) So it sounds well within the usual apparently acceptable extent of bugginess for Slashdot.

Here is the JE explaining my stance.

I'll take recent developments as a challenge to put my communications on a diet in a sense and cut out the "junk words".
